Position Overview

The Automotive Body Shop Technician is responsible for performing high-quality repairs on damaged vehicles, restoring them to their pre-accident condition. This role involves working with a variety of tools and materials to perform tasks such as dent repair, frame straightening, panel replacement, and refinishing. The Body Shop Technician must have a keen eye for detail, a thorough understanding of automotive repair techniques, and the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Damage Repair:

    • Assess vehicle damage and determine the appropriate repair methods.
    • Perform structural and non-structural repairs, including frame straightening, welding, and panel replacement.
    • Repair or replace damaged body panels, doors, fenders, bumpers, and other components.
  • Surface Preparation:

    • Sand, grind, and prime surfaces in preparation for painting.
    • Apply body fillers and perform necessary sanding to ensure smooth surfaces.
    • Mask and tape vehicles to protect areas not being painted.
  • Quality Control:

    • Conduct thorough inspections of repaired vehicles to ensure all work meets quality standards.
    • Perform final adjustments and touch-ups as necessary.
    • Test drive repaired vehicles to verify proper alignment and functionality.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance:

    • Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and work areas.

  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with estimators to understand repair plans and timelines.
    • Communicate with parts associates to ensure timely delivery of needed parts.
    • Collaborate with other technicians and body shop staff to achieve efficient workflow.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in automotive repair is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive repair techniques and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of tools and equipment, including welding machines, frame straighteners, and spray guns.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
