Position Overview

The Automotive Parts Advisor is responsible for assisting customers and service technicians in identifying and obtaining the necessary parts for vehicle repairs and maintenance. This role involves managing inventory, placing orders, and providing expert advice on parts and accessories. The Parts Advisor must possess strong organizational skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a solid understanding of automotive parts and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service:

    • Greet and assist customers in-person, over the phone, or online with parts inquiries and orders.
    • Identify the correct parts and accessories needed based on customer or technician requests.
    • Provide expert advice on parts compatibility, availability, and pricing.
  • Parts Management:

    • Maintain an organized and accurate inventory of parts and accessories.
    • Receive and inspect parts shipments for accuracy and quality.
  • Order Processing:

    • Process parts orders efficiently and accurately using the dealership's management software.
    • Prepare parts for delivery or pick-up, ensuring all orders are complete and accurate.
    • Handle returns and exchanges of parts, managing the necessary paperwork and inventory adjustments.
  • Collaboration with Service Department:

    • Work closely with service technicians to understand their parts needs for specific repairs and maintenance tasks.
    • Ensure timely delivery of parts to the service area to support efficient workflow.
    • Communicate effectively with service advisors and technicians about parts availability and delivery times.
  • Sales and Upselling:

    • Promote and sell additional parts, accessories, and related services to customers.
    • Identify opportunities to upsell products that enhance vehicle performance or appearance.
    • Educate customers on the benefits of genuine OEM parts and accessories.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of parts transactions, inventory levels, and orders.
    • Generate reports on parts usage, inventory status, and sales performance.
    • Assist in preparing budget forecasts for parts procurement.
  • Quality Control:

    • Ensure all parts meet quality standards and are free from defects.
    • Address any issues with defective or incorrect parts promptly.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding parts storage and handling.
    • Properly dispose of hazardous materials according to environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in automotive parts or a related field is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with customers, technicians, and other dealership staff.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in a dealership environment, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, and other typical conditions.

Work Environment

  • Primarily in a dealership or automotive parts store environment.
