General Summary/Overview StatementThe Student Research Assistant (RA) will assist with studies involving chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, and hypertension. Core responsibilities may include assisting on patient enrollment and retention, scheduling and attending meetings, taking meeting notes, drafting documents for the Institutional Review Board (IRB), organizing filing systems, literature reviews, and basic data analysis and programming under the guidance of the team’s analysts and programmers. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, and an adherence to strict confidentially within in an academic medical center environment. Principal Duties And Responsibilities For all positions that include direct patient care, indicate with an “X” the age(s) of all patient populations served No Direct Patient Care X All age groups Adolescence (13 to 17 years) Neonates (birth to 1 month) Young Adult (18 to 25 years) Infant (1 month to1year) Adult (26 to 54 years) Early Childhood (12 months to 5 years) Senior Adult (55 to 64 years) Late Childhood (6 to 12 years) Geriatric (65 years and up)
Responsible for aiding with the collection and organization of research data.
Attending meetings and taking meeting notes.
Literature searches: as needed performs general topic searches. Retrieves journal articles from the Internet or library.
May assist with the preparation of formal reports.
May help with the preparation of presentation materials including overheads, slides, and PowerPoint tables and graphs.
Working with the Project Manager to draft study documents.
Assisting on data analysis and programming efforts under the guidance of the team’s analysts and programmers. Qualifications
Experience with data management, including using word-processing, spreadsheet and database software, and a basic foundation in analytic and programming software and languages.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Excellent interpersonal skills required for working with hospital leadership and staff. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.
Basic competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access or willingness to learn.
Basic competency in analytic and programming software and languages, such as R, SQL, and Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Ability to use medical bibliographic retrieval programs.
