BrightFarms is a national leader in the booming indoor farming industry, transforming how produce is grown and delivered with its expanding network of high-tech, sustainable hydroponic farms. We currently operate six high-tech greenhouse farms, with four new regional salad greenhouse hubs breaking ground to begin opening in 2024. BrightFarms' fresh lettuce options, from classic greens to crunchy mixes and salad kits, are available in more than 3,700 retail stores across the East Coast and Midwest.
The Project Management Office team is looking to add a Construction Manager to oversee the construction site activities of the BrightFarms construction partners at one or more locations in the US to support the overall growth of the company. The first project location for this position is Macon, GA. It is expected construction will continue at this location until early 2025. It is expected the Construction Manager will be on site 5-6 days on average per week. The actual schedule, including home rotation, will be determined with the successful candidate. This position will report to the Director of Construction.
As the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of site activities and ensuring the contract partners are adhering to their safety protocols, progressing according to schedules, managing potential change orders, and reporting on daily activities. BrightFarms currently employs the Design-Build contract model for site construction with our partners. The Design-Builder is responsible for full site control and installation. Your management of the site construction progress will be crucial in ensuring the successful execution of greenhouse and business projects that contribute to our company's mission of giving more people access to the freshest, tastiest, cleanest, and most responsibly grown produce available.
Specifically, You Will
  • Review all construction documents and specifications to develop a complete understanding of the project design, schedule, and cost drivers to be able to fully participate in, and add value to, all site discussions
  • Attend all site daily and weekly construction update meetings with the Design-Builders and key subcontractors on site
  • Participate in discussions with Design-Builder for issue resolution to offer your suggestions to keep the project on schedule and withing budget and act as the Owner’s representative in these discussions
  • Document action items, accountable parties, and decisions made for the project record
  • Immediately raise and document concerns over safety, progress, cost, etc. to the Design-Builder, Director of Construction, and BrightFarms Project Manager
  • Verify Design-Builder is managing BrightFarms supplied equipment and material effectively
  • Complete daily inspections of work completed (including photos) to ensure it meets quality standards
  • Complete a Daily Construction Manager Status report documenting activity for the day, decisions made, delays or schedule gains, and any concerns addressed with the Design-Builder
  • Provide daily tracking and updates for items that are being billed as allowance or T&M
  • Verify versus submissions from Design-Builder
  • Meet weekly with BrightFarms PM to review progress and concerns
  • Review Design-Builder invoices to verify percentages billed and amount of work left to complete
  • Represent BrightFarms with utilities, local officials, neighbors, as needed throughout the project
  • Foster a safe and inclusive work environment
  • In addition to the duties above, you may be expected to perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the company
The Ideal Candidate Has
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field
  • 15 years in construction management of large ($100M ) and complex projects
  • Experience in managing Design-Build and direct type contractors
  • Passion for creating a positive safety culture on site
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction Certification
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve results
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster teamwork across multiple vendors teams
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements relating to the industry
  • A passion for creating a healthier planet, environment & food supply
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing business environment and working on projects with tight schedules and demanding targets
  • Fanatical focus on customer service to ensure partners receive above-and-beyond support
