AGENCY SUMMARY:BrightSpark Early Learning Services has been at the forefront of the early learning landscape for over 30 years ensuring that all children have equitable access to safe, engaging, and positive early learning experiences that promote school readiness and lifetime success. With a staff of over 140 and a budget of $50 million (99% publicly funded), BrightSpark Early Learning Services provides a broad array of services for families and childcare providers so that they in turn can support the development and well-being of our children.
OPPORTUNITY:The Family, Friend & Neighbor (FFN) Programs Coach provides training, consultation and guidance, curriculum development, and evaluation support to external community partners in the provision of BrightSparks’ FFN programs. The FFN Programs Coach is a key contributor to the development of Kaleidoscope Play & Learn, Early Learning Conversations, Brothers & Sisters programs, and other FFN-related projects.
The FFN Programs Coach is a member of the Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) team whose mission is to support and advocate for Family, Friend, and Neighbor caregivers, including parents, who care for children not enrolled in formal early learning programs. Our FFN programs focus on partnering with marginalized Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) communities in collaboration with community-based organizations run by and for BIPOC communities as well as schools, libraries, and other agencies. This position supports BrightSparks’ FFN programs and projects in Washington State and nationally, including Kaleidoscope Play and Learn, Early Learning Conversations, Brothers & Sisters, as well as other FFN-supporting programs and projects. The FFN Coach collaborates with our community partners and provides training and professional development, consultation and guidance, connection to resources, and program materials. This position is key to ensuring program quality and to building and maintaining supportive working relationships with our community partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Specific responsibilities of the FFN Programs Coach are, but may not be limited to:
Consultation/Guidance & Training with Community Partners
  • Provide in-person and remote individual and group-based consultation and guidance regarding the start-up and continued operation of BrightSparks’ FFN programs from an anti-racist, culturally relevant, inclusive, and strengths-based perspective:
    • Planning for implementation of BrightSparks’ FFN Programs, including budgeting, hiring, and supporting facilitators, and program requirements.
    • Outreach to marginalized Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) FFN caregivers and families.
    • Implementation of all aspects of the program, including caregiver engagement and education components of the programs
    • Developmentally- and culturally appropriate activities for young children; supporting families from a variety of cultural, language, and economic backgrounds, etc.
    • Connecting partner organizations with resources, such as space, materials, funding, and information
    • Collect data to implement program evaluations and quality assurance measures.
  • Utilize formal and informal data in collaboration with community partner organizations and facilitators to monitor and improve program quality.
  • Promote BrightSparks’ FFN programs and recruit new community partners to provide our FFN programs, particularly those that align with our focus on supporting marginalized BIPOC families.
  • Develop and facilitate group-based training of new community partners and new facilitators and ongoing continuing education to current facilitators through in-person and web-based training.
  • Model respect for community organizations and facilitators and their cultural practices and support their learning and growth in individual and small and large group settings.
FFN Program Development
  • Create and revise program materials, including newsletters, curriculum, lesson guides, outreach materials, and handbooks.
  • Participate in data collection and evaluation.
  • Participate in advocacy related to FFN care.
  • Utilize formal and informal data to improve BrightSparks’ FFN programs and projects.
Other Responsibilities
  • Document consultation/guidance and training activities in our data-tracking systems.
  • Participate in FFN Team meetings, BrightSpark staff meetings, and cross-team work groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in early childhood education, Social Work, Family Engagement, or a related field and 4 years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated 2 years’ experience in strengths-based family and community engagement, and in working with people from marginalized BIPOC communities, including people with low incomes, immigrants, and English language learners.
  • A rich understanding of and a commitment to continued learning about equity and social justice issues and systems-based inequities experienced by young children and their families in marginalized BIPOC communities.
  • Knowledge of early childhood, child development best practices, curricula, and assessment tools; knowledge of family engagement principles
  • Experience in creating and presenting in-person and virtual trainings, providing formal presentations, and facilitating meetings.
  • Knowledge of programs and services for young children and their families
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to constructively manage disagreement and conflict; the ability to respond clearly and effectively to inquiries from stakeholders and the public; and to establish warm, genuine working relationships, in-person and remotely, with people from a variety of cultural, language, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write a variety of documents for various audiences.
  • Ability to work under deadlines, work on many tasks simultaneously, and organize and prioritize work quickly in response to changing needs.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management experience
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to work occasional night and weekend hours within the work week.
  • Washington State Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and daily access to a reliable automobile
  • Demonstrated skills in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, email marketing software, Survey Monkey, and other common applications.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and frequently in King and Pierce Counties and occasionally throughout the State to provide in-person consultation/guidance and training.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience with facilitated play groups (Kaleidoscope Play & Learn in particular) or other family support programs involving children and their parents and FFN caregivers.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Chinese, or another language spoken by BIPOC communities in Pierce & King Counties
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Family Engagement, or a related field and 2 years of related work experience.

  • This is a full-time, salaried position requiring work during BrightSpark Early Learning Services’ usual business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-5 pm, and requires a willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Base salary will be used when considering compensation for a new employee.Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill, and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, in addition to internal racial equity.
