Brilliant Management Resources has been engaged in the search for a contract-to-hire Director of Finance & Accounting for one of our not-for-profit clients, located in downtown Chicago, IL (Chicago Loop). Hybrid work environment with 2 days required in office.

Candidate must have non-profit experience with (501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3) corporations, including internal and external audit processes.

Role provides strategic leadership and management of the organization’s financial activities. Collaborating closely with the senior management team, this role develops financial strategies supporting both short-term operations and long-range organizational goals to advance the organization's mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all operational accounting functions, including:

• Provide strategic oversight of all finance and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices for not-for-profit organizations.
• Develop and manage the annual Plan, including budgeting and financial forecasting.
• Lead the monthly financial close process, offering strategic insights to support senior management decision-making.
• Work with the accounting team to administer the payroll system.
• Create online sales tax reports.
• Manage cash flow, overseeing receipts and distributions to ensure liquidity and financial stability. Manage bank accounts and the organization's investment portfolio.
• Maintain relationships with external financial partners such as auditors, bankers, consultants, insurance brokers, and investment managers.
• Drive process improvements to optimize efficiency and service delivery within finance and accounting operations.
• Oversee / manage an accounting & finance department
• Provide quarterly reports for the Board of Directors and coordinate year-end audit processes and completion of Form 990’s.
• Administer the organization’s 401k plan, including the annual audit and Form 5500.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new program initiatives and strategic objectives.
• Conduct ongoing review and analysis of financial processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior management role with responsibility for finance, accounting, and human resources.
• Advanced knowledge of not-for-profit accounting and finance for 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3) corporations, including internal and external audit processes.
• MBA and/or CPA or equivalent designation desirable.
• General knowledge of business information systems, financial software, association management software, Microsoft and Google products, and specific working knowledge of systems in use (Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred)
• Capable leader with demonstrated ability to effectively manage and develop staff.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain technical finance and accounting topics to non-technical audiences.
