Job Description

We are currently looking for a Controller - Field Operations

This position will act as a technical accounting resource for the Brink’s Corporate Accounting office. As part of this role, the position will be involved in various other aspects of corporate accounting, including assisting with the review of certain judgements and estimates (Goodwill impairment, Allowance for Doubtful Accounts, etc.), certain financial reporting areas (cash flow, etc.), writing technical accounting white papers, assisting with accounting policy development, providing training to the global accounting team, global certification processes and process/control improvement initiatives. A particular area of focus in technical accounting and process improvement in lease accounting (both lessee and lessor) given certain Digital Retail Solutions (DRS) and ATM Managed Services (AMS) devices provided to customers. 

As time allows, the position will also be responsible for performing periodic reviews of balance sheet account reconciliations for the entities they are responsible for. The position will also be responsible for ensuring that all identified accounting adjustments and proposed accounting process changes are implemented by the Brink’s subsidiaries within a reasonable timeframe and will provide training as needed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Special projects (e.g. Cash flow automation, analytic automation, sales-type lease contract review assessments, efficiency (root cause/solution) evaluations for cash flow, etc.)

  • Perform balance sheet and income statement reviews under US GAAP and provide training for local accounting personnel on relevant US GAAP.

  • Judgement and Estimate Accounting

  • Financial Reporting

  • Technical accounting white papers, policy development and related training

Major Challenges:

  • Resolving technical GAAP accounting issues

  • Prioritizing multiple responsibilities and ensuring all important tasks are completed in a timely manner

  • Communicating effectively with local Brink’s accounting/finance teams to ensure that work is completed as efficiently as possible; this also includes organizing calls across time zones, being flexible to account for team priorities, and including appropriate Corporate staff as needed

  • Communicating effectively with local Brink’s management and Corporate management (including Corporate CFO as needed) to obtain agreement on all identified issues as well as how and when the issues will be resolved 

  • Reviewing local balance sheets to ensure compliance with US GAAP when different financial reporting systems are used, cultural and language barriers and local understanding of US GAAP may be limited

  • Working with local Brink’s accounting/finance teams to implement changes to processes to ensure errors do not recur. Due to varied levels of systems and accounting personnel sophistication around the world, this position will need to adapt process improvements to the individual location drawing on their varied background as required by this position

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree desired

  • 6 to 8 years Public accounting

  • 10 plus years Big 4 Senior Manager level or above desired

  • Is organized and makes productive use of available time

  • Able to work independently to solve problems but knows when it is appropriate to ask for assistance

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills

  • Uses effective research and investigation skills to resolve accounting questions

  • Works easily with different types of people

  • Advanced US GAAP knowledge (beyond CPA license)

  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Previous experience with Oracle FCC

  • Fluent in Spanish or French is a plus but not required

  • Experience in auditing/designing processes and controls in a Sox internal control environment.
