Broad Institute is Hiring a Principal Software Product Manager Near Cambridge, MA

Description & Requirements

The Broad Institute has played a pivotal role in mapping the genetic basis of disease, and developed operational frameworks and software platforms to engage patients through web-based study recruitment. At the Broad, we collaborate with world-leading technology, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies as well as philanthropic organizations and provide a vibrant environment with close links to top academic and industry institutions across the Boston area and the world. Together, these activities make us a leading organization at the intersection of clinical and data sciences.

The mission of Count Me In (CMI) is to harness the transformative power of patient voices in addition to their clinical information, biological samples, and experiences to inform the next frontiers of science. At CMI, we build technological and scientific capabilities for patient-centered research to tackle some of the most critical rare diseases and cancers through the lens of hundreds and thousands of patients living with them.

Together, Count Me In and the Broad are well-positioned to lead the next phase of transformation for cancer and rare disease clinical research and discovery by building a scalable and sustainable direct-to-patient platform, powered by data and alliances, to connect patients with the research options available to them.

Juniper is Count Me In's flagship direct-to-patient software product, and supports its mission by:

  • engaging and empowering participation in research;
  • supporting research administrators with study and data management capabilities; and
  • connecting researchers directly to data through the Broad's cloud-based Terra platform.

We are looking for a talented and motivated product leader to join our team. This person will be responsible for synthesizing the needs and goals of various stakeholders into a highly engaging product platform. They will work closely with our head of engineering and cross-functional scientific teams while championing the development and maturation of Juniper.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for user engagement and data, and be experienced with the integration of multiple platforms. Success will be found through experience in product development and market research to understand various and changing needs. They will enjoy working in a collaborative, location-flexible, team-based setting and interacting with people at other institutions around the world. They will have good attention to detail and take pride in the software produced. They will thrive in a collaborative scientific research environment and be motivated to contribute to it.

What You Will Do:

  • Strategize in collaboration with CMI leadership to set the high-level vision for Juniper.
  • Develop and communicate product vision, strategy, roadmap, and product plans, both internally and externally.
  • Maintain, evolve, and communicate user personas and user journeys
  • Apply software product development best practices to deliver a world class research platform that will provide a resource to patients and researchers for years to come.
  • Engage with and survey scientists and clinicians, research participants, lab personnel, and other stakeholders to understand their needs.
  • Collaborate with our information security team to ensure that our product roadmap takes into account the nuances of the complex regulatory environment surrounding health information in both research and clinical settings.
  • Champion CMI's software products to the rare disease community. Inspire development teams, collaborators, and stakeholders with concise, valuable, relevant product vision statements that target the most important user scenarios for CMI.
  • As a member of CMI's leadership team, exemplify its values, weigh in on strategic decisions, and drive operational excellence across the organization.
  • Develop a strong Product team culture through strategic and tactical planning and coaching and training of team members.
  • Be a key player in helping chart the right path forward for the organization as we expand Juniper's reach. Work closely with business development and customer delivery functions on go-to-market strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with our head of engineering to support an effective prod-eng team with clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify metrics for software products and work with product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure that mechanisms are in place to collect relevant data and iteratively refine software products according to these metrics.
  • Manage relationships with teams at partner institutions to ensure successful delivery of work for critical projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree ideally in computer sciences or related field. Relevant commercial product development experience is of high value for consideration.
  • Proven track record of success in direct-to-patient software product management and working closely with Agile Engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (eg GCP, Azure, AWS, etc).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with user experience and web design principles.
  • Experience in an academic, laboratory, and/or research environment is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of success in managing employees and building teams (responsibility for hiring, performance management, career development, and team culture development).

The Broad Institute will not offer visa sponsorship for this opportunity.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
