Assistant Director of Nursing
Mt Airy, NC
Full-time, Salaried position

Summary:Assists the Director of Nursing with administrative duties and the supervision of nursing staff.

Qualifications:Education:
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
  • Valid RN license in the state employed.
  • Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
  • Seven years experience in nursing, two years of which was supervisory in a long-term care environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluates the performance of the nursing department and recommends improvements.
  • Makes recommendations for training or work modification to the DON regarding nursing staff performance.
  • Ensures nursing staff follows departmental procedures and policies.
  • Monitor Nursing Staff breaks to assure compliance.
  • Assist with disciplinary matters.
  • Monitor noise level and Resident satisfaction.
  • Follow up with Resident and Family concerns in a timely manner.
  • Represents the DON at meetings, in the community, and assumes responsibility for nursing operations in the DON's absence.
  • Ensures nursing staff follows departmental procedures and policies.
  • Conducts daily rounds on resident hallways to assure exceptional quality of care is being given.
  • Along with the SDC nurse, makes recommendations for nursing staff trainings, education and/or in-services.
  • Ensures compliance with state, federal, and local standards.
  • Pro-actively addresses survey and/or standards of care issues.
  • Review 24 hour report then check to be sure documentation is complete for:falls, ABT, Skin Tears, Behaviors, Decubs, Abnormal Labs, Admits/Re-Admits.
  • Monitors and audits charts for accuracy for Admissions, Re-admissions, BMs, etc.
  • Monitors admission checklist.
  • Check medication orders on all new admissions and re-admissions.
  • Assist with narcotic returns to pharmacy.
  • Monitor and initiate PIPS in coordination with the nursing administrative team.
  • Attend QAPI quarterly and participate as indicated.
  • Participate in on-call rotation with fellow Administrative Nurses.
  • Participates in meetings and committees to address resident care issuses such as:
  • IDT
  • WWI
  • Restorative Program
  • Attends weekly Medicare meetings.
  • Participates in Angel Rounds program as indicated.
  • Assist Nurses/CNAs on halls as needed.
  • Cover desk/halls as needed.
  • Backup for med aides.
  • Backup for DON in her absence (Interim DON if the situation applies).
  • Assist DON as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members,and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, state and federal regulations and Central Continuing Care policies and procedures regarding nursing standards and delivery of care.
