Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an ACCOUNTING MANAGER for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.
About SignatureFounded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for daily accounting operations of the finance department. The Accounting Manager ensures timely, accurate, and complete financial information is available for the staff and our external partners to make financial decisions that impact the company. This person has excellent attention-to-detail and foundational accounting knowledge, comfortable with debits and credits and all daily bookkeeping tasks. The Accounting Manager supervises a part-time Finance Assistant to ensure accuracy and timeliness of daily deposits and weekly Accounts Payable processing, around 30 payments/week. This job includes a hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office/2 days remote
Responsibilities
- Review daily cash receipts
- Review weekly Accounts Payable process
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card processor activity
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Manage revenue recognition, grant compliance, and purpose restrictions
- Ensure data integrity of accounting postings, particularly of internal stakeholders (Box Office and Development)
- Support the monthly and year-end close process
- Manage annual audit schedule preparation
- Supervise part-time Finance Assistant
- Coursework in finance/accounting or equivalent work experience
- Experience with accounting software
- Familiarity with Tessitura is a big plus!
- Two or more years of related experience
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Proficient in Financial Edge NXT or similar accounting software
- Foundational familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
