ABOUT THE ROLE:

The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving Brooklyn Lab infrastructure, equipment, and grounds. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that all operations comply with safety and quality standards.

The Administrative Assistant will report directly to the High School Office Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds.
• Repair structural damages such as sheetrock/drywall, carpentry, painting, etc.
• Perform plumbing related duties as needed such as fixing leaking faucets, toilet sinks, etc.
• Perform basic electrical repairs, including replacing bulbs, ballast, and fixtures as needed.
• Complete painting assignments.
• Monitor and replace emergency lighting, exit signs, and door entry battery units.
• Recognize potential safety issues in and around the building and grounds and act to correct.
• Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, and trim; use carpenter’s hand tools
  and power tools.
• Be able to assemble, move, and (re)arrange furniture.
• Mount objects to and repair walls.
• Be able to Change locks, outlets, lightbulbs, ballast, switches, thermostats, filters, flushometers, toilet seat and
  covers.
• Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe.
• Make independent assessments for repair and maintenance needs while assisting and following directives of
  COO or Office Managers
• Performs other duties as assigned**

**Other duties based on the school's and its scholars' needs.

ABOUT THE QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Janitorial or custodial experience preferred
• Ability to perform maintenance tasks
• Porter experience is a plus
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Consult with administrative personnel and Network for planning, prioritizing, and scheduling custodial activities and achieving site maintenance objectives.
• Maintains necessary supplies and equipment to ensure custodial items are available to maintain facilities properly. Maintains the exterior of the sites, including snow/ice removal, trash removals as needed
• Performs maintenance building repairs (e.g. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) to maintain a safe and attractive building. Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, etc.) to ensure adequate quantities for daily use.
• Ability to self-manage in a highly professional work environment, which requires interfacing with constituencies at the network and school levels
•  School experience is a plus.

ABOUT BENEFITS & COMPENSATION:

Brooklyn LAB staff will receive a competitive salary and benefits package that improves over time and is competitive with other New York City charter schools.

The salary for this role is budgeted from $45,000-55,000 annually, commensurate with experience and expertise.
