The Corporate Paralegal is accountable for general corporate counseling, contract review, and litigation management for select sales, service, and support divisions and departments of the company throughout the Americas, with a focus on Latin America. This position provides legal support to multiple attorneys each working with several business and support groups within the organization. Paralegal support includes but is not limited to drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts (in English and Spanish) under attorney supervision, effectively communicating and building strong business relationships with internal clients in order to understand business objectives and identify issues to assist attorneys in providing value-added legal counsel, track and manage contract negotiations under attorney supervision, and other projects in support of the legal department objectives.
This role requires the successful candidate to be bilingual, with fluency in both English and Spanish.
What You’ll DoContract Management
  • Manage contract lifecycle from inception through execution; including commenting on and drafting documents in Spanish.
  • Support attorneys in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial transactions, including sales, service, consulting, technology, licensing, financial and employment documentation, non-disclosure, dealer and other agreements.
  • Track contract details and phases until contract execution while continuously communicating progress to supervising attorney and internal clients.
  • Communicate with business and support clients to understand objectives, review and draft contracts, and identify key issues to assist attorneys and internal clients.
Departmental Support
  • Under attorney supervision, respond to and resolve small claims matters and escalated customer complaints.
  • Manage, track and work with insurance group and supervising attorney on all insurance subrogation matters for the organization.
  • Support and manage document productions for third party disputes and other document requests (e.g., litigation, arbitration, subpoenas, informal requests), including interfacing with record custodians and conducting document review for responsiveness and privilege.
  • Provide administrative support to the legal department as needed.
Research
  • Under attorney supervision, research and respond to other legal department requests related to corporate or legal compliance.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with appliable laws and regulations.
About Our Ideal CandidateEducation
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Law, Criminal Justice, Philosophy, or related field (Preferred)
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a corporate paralegal in either a law firm or corporate setting.
Licenses & Certifications
  • CP - Certified Paralegal
Languages
  • Spanish (REQUIRED
  • Portuguese (Preferred)
Software/Technical Skills
  • Visio and Adobe Acrobat
Other Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of contract law and handling confidential information.
  • Familiarity in working with a variety of commercial contracts on both the supplier and customer side.
  • Ability to draft and assist in contract negotiation in Spanish.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within established procedures with a moderate degree of supervision.
  • Proficient project management skills, organizational skills, and an ability to drive a project to completion.
  • Ability to manage multiple, varied tasks and deadlines simultaneously while prioritizing appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and confident in communicating with senior leaders of the Brother business.
  • Strong ability to work well in a collaborative team environment and build strong personal relationships within the team and across the business at all levels.
  • Strong analytic and organizational skills with a proven ability to synthesize information from different sources in order to focus review on legal issues and risks.
  • Willingness and eagerness to take on new and challenging projects with interest and enthusiasm for learning new subjects, positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Additional Details For This RoleThis role will be a hybrid role. Subject to business needs, employees may work remotely up to two days per week. Assigned office days will be determined by managers.
  • The annual salary (or hiring) range for this position is $72,800 – 85,280 per year ($35/hr. - $41/hr.)
  • Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data.
