Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is Hiring a Veterinary Medical Manager Near Asheville, NC

General Position Summary : The Medical Manager is responsible for managing the administrative aspects and support staff of the medical department and mobile spay/neuter clinic. Essential Function/Major Responsibilities: Manages all administrative aspects of Brother Wolf's medical department. Implements and manages medical care and treatment plans for all animals under the guidance and direction of staff veterinarian, organizational medical protocols, Dept of Agriculture requirements, and veterinarian partners. Serves as primary team member for administering and overseeing animal health checks, intakes, foster appointments, etc. Discusses animal health and treatment plans with adopters and foster parents. Schedules employees in the Medical Department to ensure adequate staff coverage, including managing on call schedule. Schedules veterinary care at outside veterinary offices. Works to establish and maintain beneficial working relationships with local veterinary offices. Manages Lifelong Friends program. Assists the Director of Operations in tracking medical grants. Oversees training, scheduling, and management of medical and mobile clinic support staff. Determines mobile clinic travel schedule, number of animals, prices, and mix of animals with input from the team and Executive Director. Oversees mobile clinic grant tracking and gathers and reports data for grant reports as required by grant manager. Compiles and submits monthly reports as requested by directors and outside partners. Maintains inventory of supplies and ordering of supplies for mobile clinic and medical department, including placing orders and processing invoices. Oversees state DVM licensing renewal, DEA license renewal, and state clinic inspections as necessary. Works in partnership with the Finance team and Executive Director to manage medical department and mobile clinic budgets and make financial decisions for these departments. As part of the Animal Care and Support team, makes decisions regarding euthanasia of an animal when they are irremediably suffering or unsafe to adopt out. Monitors the medical department email address and voicemail and ensures voicemails and emails are responded to promptly and effectively by the medical and mobile clinic staff. Ensures the medical department, mobile clinic, and corresponding storage areas are kept clean, sanitary and organized. Treats all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance. Demonstrates understanding of and willingness to uphold Brother Wolf mission, vision and core values. Qualifications: 2 years of prior experience working in the animal medical field, preferably in a shelter environment 2 years experience managing a team Familiarity with diseases common to dogs and cats Familiarity with preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic veterinary treatment of domestic animals. Knowledge of contemporary shelter medicine and clinic maintenance techniques and accepted sanitary practices. Rabies inoculations are required or must be waived. Comfortable making decisions in regard to euthanasia. Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies. Must be at least 26 years of age and have a valid driver's license in order to drive mobile clinic vehicle as needed. Excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service skills. Ability and initiative, working with minimal supervision and direction. Maturity, excellent judgment, and a professional appearance. Ability to read, write, and understand English is required. Physical Requirements: Physical ability to walk and or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required. Ability to bend and squat. Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands and to hear and see clearly. Physical ability to push up to 150lbs and to carry up to 50lbs regularly and independently throughout a regular workday required. Allergic conditions, which may be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification. Working conditions : Conditions may include working alone, working inside or outside during varying weather conditions, frequent interruptions, and some evenings/weekends meetings and classes. Educational Requirements: High school graduation required Euthanasia Technician Certification required to obtain within 90 days of start date. Brother Wolf will aid obtaining this certification. RVT license desired (or equivalent experience) Location: Adoption Center Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt, full time Hours and days will vary depending on organizational needs. May include weekend and holiday work. Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Director of Shelter Operations Availability: This position must be available to be scheduled for work five days a week between the hours of 7AM and 6PM without other conflicts. The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday with a total of 40 hours of work per week. Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year as animals need daily care.
