The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Alternative Placement Supervisor to support the Animal Care Division.

General Description
Performs supervisory work in the field of animal care and regulation and in the operation of kennel facilities.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years in the professional care and control of animals in the field, a kennel or shelter facility and one (1) additional year of supervisory or leader worker experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.
Certification in Euthanasia and Chemical Capture (depending on area of assignment).
Certification as an Animal Control Officer (depending on area of assignment).

Additional Information:

This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates selected for employment will be subject to pre-employment verifications to include but not limited to; post-offer physical examination/drug test and clearance of the Department of Children and Families Affidavit of Good Moral Character.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
This position will be primarily responsible for programs that seek to home shelter animals through means other than traditional pet adoptions at the shelter. These programs include Foster, Transfer/Rescue, and Community Cats (Spay/Neuter Incentive Program, Trap-Neuter-Release, and Return to Field). Responsibilities will include managing at least these programs, to include building and maintaining a positive rapport with rescue groups, coordinating and participating in the movement of pets to the rescue groups, building a robust foster program for all types of pets - especially large dogs, and coordinating all Community Cat programs within the shelter.
Additional duties include the following:
Building and maintaining positive relationships with transfer partners and foster parents
Coordinating and facilitating the movement of pets to transfer partners.
Developing and managing a robust foster program for our dogs and cats with a focus on large dogs, orphaned/sick neonates.
Overseeing various programs including the Community Cat Program, Pet Supermarket program, Broward Buddies Program, Foster Program, and the Transfer Program
Supervise staff within the Program’s Team.
Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs/projects and services including preparing comprehensive reports.
Developing and improving policies, procedures, and guidelines related to programs/projects and services.
Identifying opportunities for new partnerships within and out of state.
Monitoring compliance with policies.
Performing administrative tasks such as quality control checks and maintenance of project records.
Creating and maintaining performance/production reports/animal disposition.
Participating in evaluating animals’ dispositions.
Assisting in medical care of foster pets and urgent admissions.
Managing purchasing with monthly reconciliations through PeopleSoft and inventory.
Monitoring email communications from Program’s team ensuring that all communications align with Animal Care’s value and mission.
Providing nurturing care to neonates while awaiting pickup by foster parents.
Delivering animals via company vehicle when needed.
Ensuring pet’s medical history is complete before leaving the facility.
Acting swiftly during emergency cases such as creating email blast, contacting transfer partners directly and communicating with the medical team about pet’s most suitable pathway.
Providing the Program’s team daily support in all areas.
Attending promotional events.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating with volunteers, providing customer service support, responding to public record requests, creating promotional material and taking pictures of animals.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy (depending on area of assignment).
