Job DescriptionThe Private Investment Operations Team supports the full lifecycle of alternative and illiquid assets at Brown Advisory, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of transactions and valuations related to private equity, hedge fund, and direct investment deals. The Alternative Asset Manager is responsible for managing a team of analysts, overseeing our valuation practices, private investment reporting and analysis, and setting the strategic vision to support this fast-growing asset class.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide career development support and coaching for direct reports
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of valuations and activity for non-marketable investments
  • Build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders to drive business decisions and positive results
  • Partner with investment teams to launch new alternative assets and ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Coordinate with the private fund operations to ensure the full operational lifecycle of alternative assets is working efficiently and accurately
  • Lead and contribute to departmental and firmwide projects that improve our service and scale
  • Develop strategy using team metrics on volumes, capacity, issues and cost to propel the team forward
  • Chair the firm’s Pricing Committee; charged with ensuring accurate valuations and associated controls
  • Engage custodians, funds, internal portfolio management, client service and operational teams to resolve valuation issues, breaks, delays and other related matters
  • Lead the development and workflow of outsourced vendors to aid in the maintenance and oversight of private investment valuations. Create end to end workflows for new portfolio accounting solutions as it relates to private investment operations
  • Collaborate with client teams to onboard new relationships with complex alternative asset holdings and recommend proper courses of action
  • Develop industry insights through proactive networking, conference attendance, and independent research
  • Management of Private Investment Operations team’s policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience managing a team
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience working with alternative investments, or fund accounting
  • Demonstrated a solid proficiency and understanding of private equity and hedge fund securities, real assets, and possess a general knowledge of market mechanics.
  • Strong level of attention to detail, proven ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities, and a sense of urgency is required
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong decision making, organization, and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective time-management, problem-resolution, and research skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and escalate as necessary
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, specifically macros and v-lookup functionality
  • Proven track record of process improvements using technology
  • Proactive mentality
  • Ability to handle confidential material with utmost discretion
  • Ability to work in an office location
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA and Master’s degree
  • CAIA
  • Advent APX, Addepar, Solovis, Efront, Tamarac, SWP portfolio accounting experience is a plus
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, VBA preferred
