Brownsville Wellness Coalition is Hiring a Program Manager - Farmers Market / FRESCo Near Brownsville, TX

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

The Brownsville Wellness Coalition (BWC) is a 501(c)3 organization that serves Brownsville, Texas. Its mission is to cultivate healthy foods and lifestyles. Through its programs, the Community Gardens, Urban Farms, the Farmers Market, the Fresco Mobile Market, La Cocina Alegre, BWC supports local food production, educates the public, and provides access to affordable, nutritious food.

POSITION SUMMARY:

BWC’s Program Manager is a positive individual, passionate about community-based Farmers Markets, small farmers, and healthy urban neighborhoods. They are self-motivated, reliable, flexible, and a team player. They have excellent customer service and community engagement skills, an ability to work under pressure, and strong conflict resolution skills. The Program Manager ensures the successful implementation and evaluation of the Farmers/Mobile Market Program. They deliver this community-based program focusing on empowering the community through gardening, farming, and healthy eating.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Coordinates the Farmers Market program. Builds and maintains positive relationships with vendors, community partners, neighboring businesses, and the public.

· Approves vendors’ location and equipment at the market, leads set-up/ tear-down.

· Oversees the market’s sales, services, and special events.

· Manages all vendor applications, communications, scheduling, and needed permits.

· Focuses on vendor business success and provides the best customer service experience to the public and partners.

· Tracks, analyzes, and reports vendor sales and other data to Grant Manager and upper management. Reports progress of activities and identify opportunities for promoting healthy eating and active living.

· Designs and implements systems to effectively supervise and train facilitators and volunteers.

· Develops and coordinates weekly BWC and Farmers Market advertising in social media, website, radio, television, newspaper, street banners and flyers.

· Promotes the Farmers Market and coordinates media interviews with Executive Director and Board of Directors.

· Manages the Fresco Mobile Market, implements program and coordinates routes.

· Coordinates with partner organizations to recruit and maintain current/new community vendors.

· Maintains an accurate calendar of events and newsletters. Archives Farmers’ Market marketing materials and advertisement.

· Attends meetings with partner organizations on behalf of BWC.

· Supports Community Garden and Urban Farm program by assisting with the cultivation, irrigation and harvesting of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and tree fruits.

· Assists in maintaining garden quality such as soil health, aesthetics, and accessibility.

· Creates community engagement by educating and mentoring the public with workshops on bed gardening, composting and food preservation and preparation.

· Supports La Cocina Alegre program and food demonstrations.

· Creates and maintains an inventory of tools.

· Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.

· Ensures a safe workplace and addresses safety issues as they arise.

· Fosters a harmony teamwork environment, treats everyone with respect and takes personal responsibility.

· Represents BWC in a professional manner and is a role model in the community.

OTHER SUPPORT:

Collaborates with staff to support BWC’s programs and supports the organization with other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or related field with two years of experience in sales or a similar Farmers Market role OR High school diploma or equivalent with five years of experience in sales or a similar Farmers’ Market/retail role.

One year experience with event execution and familiarity with basic equipment and logistics.

Basic knowledge of gardening and farming practices and production.

Ability to work independently in an outdoor setting during various weather conditions.

Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, working weekends and evenings when needed.

Be in possession of a current Texas Driver’s License and auto insurance, as well as reliable transportation to travel between sites.

Bilingual, and fluent in English and Spanish is a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds regularly to move objects.
