BRUKER is Hiring an Instrument and Development Engineer I Near Seattle, WA

Overview

The Engineer I/II works closely with a cross functional team to help improve the existing NanoString platforms, primarily CosMx and GeoMx. The Engineer is responsible for supporting and servicing instruments within R&D, and secondarily assist in next generation development as needed. The work involved will be highly interdisciplinary including elements of optics, fluidics, hardware control, and software. The individual in this role will regularly interact with hardware engineers, molecular biology scientists, software engineers etc. Ideal candidate for this role will be self-motivated, keen on learning to troubleshoot hardware problems and excited to work in an everchanging R&D environment

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain and support NanoString Platforms within R&D onsite in Seattle. Engage with various stakeholders and resolve issues as they arise in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback to internal teams to address failure points and make system reliability improvements
  • Support in the development of new instruments, measurements, testing, and analysis
  • Support both commercial systems with official procedures and prototype systems with less documented information
  • For commercial systems, complete new equipment installations, preventative maintenance activities, and emergency repairs with proper supporting documentation in compliance with Quality Assurance procedures
  • Communicate with internal customers, both in person and via electronic means, and interact with systems for tracking logging issues/status.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in biomedical, mechanical, electrical or related engineering field
  • Strong troubleshooting skills. Specifically, in the areas of: General electronics, electromechanical systems, automation, liquid handlers, computers, and associated networking components
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment, communicating relevant scientific data effectively in oral and written format, working in a timely manner to meet defined deadlines.
  • General understanding of IT and basic networking setup
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move approximately 80-100 lbs. on an infrequent basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience working as an engineer in the life sciences industry or relevant field service
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments preferably in the biotech / life science / automation field(s).
  • Experience performing development/maintenance/repair work on prototype instruments
  • Ability to diagnose software/hardware errors in prototype systems preferably those used for biomolecular assays
  • Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy and automated mechatronic systems
  • Experience with automation of hardware testing through software programming (Python or C# preferred)
  • Experience in fabricating prototype parts through machining/3D printing will be a plus
  • Experience with mechanical CAD software (preferably SolidWorks or equivalent)
  • Experience with automating basic data plotting and analysis

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $74,000 and $105,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.The base salary for the role will depend on a several job-related factors, including, but not limited to education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
