Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading, directing and implementing a structured, educational and recreational ‘Before and After’ school, ‘Schools Out’ and summer programming for children ages 5-12. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensure the reliability and safety of the ‘Before and After’ school program site.
  • Maintain staff/child ratio as set up by the Director of Child Development and the State of Ohio Licensing Regulations.
  • Adhere to all health and safety requirements as described in the YMCA Child Care Risk Management guidelines and the State of Ohio Child Care regulations.
  • Ensure the ‘Before and After School’ program site meets and maintains all regulations for childcare licensing per the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
  • Assist the Director of Child Development in billing the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services for students receiving subsidized childcare.
  • Construct newsletter informing staff, parents, Director, CEO and the YMCA Board of Directors of events and activities at the ‘Before and After School’ site.
  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • Assist the Director of Child Development in the purchasing of equipment and supplies for the ‘Before and After School’ program.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information regarding program news, changes, illnesses and other necessary information.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) documentation, attendance sheets, sign-in/sign-out records and accident/incident reports.
  • Assist with the recruitment, supervision and training of staff and volunteers.
  • Develop curriculum packets for ‘Before and After School’ program; supervise the implementation of daily lesson plans, including daily set-up and clean-up.
  • Report all program and staffing concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Manage confidential information.
  • Attend all training workshops and staff meetings as posted by the Director of Child Development.
  • Maintain updated CPR/First Aid, Recognition and Prevention of Child Abuse and Management of Communicable Diseases training.

Child Protection Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Participates in required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field. 
  • Must have at least 18 hours of Child Development coursework and meet ODJFS requirements for Site Administrators.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with children in a classroom setting.
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing a curriculum.
  • Must attend and maintain in-service hours as required by ODJFS and YMCA guidelines.
  • Must submit all required paperwork for ODJFS licensing. Must submit a staff medical statement as required by ODJFS standards. Must obtain and keep current training certifications in first aid, communicable diseases, child abuse recognition & prevention as required by ODJFS.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
