Description

Compensation - $42,828

Education Division:

The Education Division at The Buffalo Urban League seeks to create avenues for economic empowerment through educational attainment, intentional programming, skills and career readiness training, mentorship, and employment outreach services. Youth and young adults ages 14 – 20 have access to paid work experience opportunities with local businesses, skilled trade apprenticeships and training programs with our community partners. The Buffalo Urban League is steadfast in our commitment to supporting our community through the creation of a diverse workforce, dismantling generational poverty, and forging access pathways to self-reliance.

Position Description:

The Case Manager provides participants with a comprehensive array of education, life skills, occupational skills training, work experience and/or internships, mentoring, case management, scholarships, and career development services to promote and support educational and/or work attainment.

  • Responsible for all documentation of case notes, maintaining accurate and up to date files, identifying and addressing barriers to success. The Case Manager will make appropriate linkages and referrals for community services, facilitate goal setting, implement follow-up, and follow through with coordinated services plans. The Case Manager will also advocate on behalf of participants in community settings.
  • Network and build positive relationships with students, parents, and school consultants.
  • The Case Manager will facilitate the intake and assessment process. Network and build positive relationships with area educational/training systems. Facilitate workshops for employment and educational development, college readiness and success.

Specific Duties:

  • Participates in the interview screening process to assess the potential participants for the program. Develop the questions for interviews; advises, and explains regulations, rules, policies, and procedures to participants. May determine participant eligibility for services; apprises participants obligations under program participation; ensures that applications and other forms are completed accurately and thoroughly.
  • Analyzes information obtained from interviews, tests, and other sources to develop short- and long-term participant goals; develops and implements individual employment plans.
  • Assesses a participant’s education, work experience, skills, abilities, qualifications, and job interest.
  • Assesses participant readiness for job referral, classroom training, on-the-job training, and/or support services; attempts to match participants with available employment, training, or other opportunities/services.
  • Identify problems/barriers that hinder program participation and retention, and employability; assists participants in resolving and mitigating barriers to these areas by identifying the need for other services and benefits. Counsel participants regarding recommended solutions and suggested supportive services.

Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with 2 years’ experience in a Human Services setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge. skills and abilities.
  • Nonprofit experience working with diverse population.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Reader.
  • Strong documentation, record keeping, and outreach skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, verbal and written.
  • The ability to conduct assignments independently.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, with 1 years’ experience in a Human Services setting.
  • Nonprofit experience working with diverse population.
  • Strong documentation, record keeping, and outreach skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, verbal and written.
  • Prior experience facilitating group workshops.
  • The ability to conduct assignments independently.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft One Drives’ file management systems.
  • Working knowledge of Google suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional evenings and weekends.
