Job Title: Tax Manager

Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance:

• Maintain and complete monthly tax compliance filings according to the tax calendar.
• Prepare and file federal and state income tax returns, estimated payment forms, and tax accounting reporting schedules.
• Oversee tax compliance for three major business components:
• Investment Company: Large, sophisticated passive investment company dealing with equity, fixed income, and alternative investments.
• Direct Investments: Entity managing direct investments in other operating entities, including both passive minority investments and those with maintained control.
• Analyze K-1 statements and assess their current tax implications.

Audits:

• Assist the VP of Tax in preparing for income tax audits.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of tax filings to facilitate audit preparation.

Tax Research:

• Utilize various tax research libraries to independently research current tax laws.
• Stay informed on new tax issues arising from our wide range of investments.
• Currently use BNA and CCH research software for tax research.

Special Projects:

• Maintain tax records for various trusts of shareholders.
• Continuously update entity tax work papers.
• Contribute to office and department upkeep, including manual tasks such as mailing estimated tax payments, with a focus on transitioning to electronic filing where possible.
• Strive to enhance compliance processes through ongoing reviews and implementation of best practices.

Computer Skills:

• Highly proficient in the MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
• Familiar with tax compliance software, specifically CCH Axcess for Income Tax Compliance.
• Knowledgeable in corporate and family office accounting software. The operating entities primarily use NetSuite, and the family office is transitioning from QuickBooks to NetSuite.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree required; CPA or MBA preferred.
• 5-7 years of combined experience in corporate and individual tax compliance, research, and audit issues.
• Preferably experienced in manufacturing and some financial services.
• Familiarity with high net worth financial and accounting issues is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Proven ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Ability to handle sensitive personal information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
