Burgess-Norton Mfg. Co. is Hiring a Tool Maker - 2nd Shift Near Belleville, MI

SMW Manufacturing is now the newest business unit of the Amsted Automotive Group and is seeking a 2nd shift Toolmaker. WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically machined tools such as CNC Lates, CNC Grinder, Mill, EDM, Hole Poper, Blancher grinder, ID/OD Grinder, surface grinder or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
  • File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them together
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges and tools using machine tools and hand tools
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as needed
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defects
  • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools using scrapers, abrasive stones, files or power grinders
  • Lift, positions and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates
  • Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloy based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance
  • Set up and operate drill presses

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Experience as a Tool Maker
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Possess strong motivational and leadership skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent work record history
  • Basic computer skills, including P.C knowledge and current technology software familiarity
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with staff well

WHAT ELSE YOU’LL NEED TO KNOW

  • Ability to regularly stand or work for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasionally lift to fifty (50) pounds
  • While performing the job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration, repetitive motion, bending, lifting, twisting, crouching, reaching, pushing and/or pulling
  • Ability to endure heat
