Butler Middle School 5-8 is Hiring a Teacher, Grade 5 Math (Long Term Substitute) Near Lowell, MA

LOWELL PUBLIC SCHOOLS, LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS

EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: start of the 2024-2025 school year

Primary Expectations:

- Elementary grades teacher / Grade 5 Mathematics certification required.

- Strong understanding of math content and what it means to elevate all students' success in mathematics. You will also know that math is not the only thing with which students need support.

- You will be a strong, but patient and professional colleague, who brings ideas to the table but knows that we want to evolve, not change and that playing a role on the team is the most important aspect of what we do.

- Bring a sense of joy to your work. We take our work seriously, but laugh a lot throughout our day.

Primary responsibilities:

1. Remain up to date regarding curriculum content, especially Eureka 2.0

2. Plan instruction that effectively engages and provides entry points for all students.

3. Plan assessment of student learning and use data to drive future planning.

4. Monitor students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, and/or assessment types when appropriate.

5. Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement. Share our belief in Restorative Justice.

6. Maintain appropriate standards of student behavior, mutual respect and safety.

7. Make learning goals clear to students.

8. Use appropriate high-leverage instructional techniques. Are you familiar with Teach Like a Champion's strategies?

9. Use appropriate questioning techniques

10. Evaluate, try innovative approaches and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence in ability to learn.

11. Communicate learning goals and high standards and expectations to students.

12. Promote confidence and perseverance in the student that stimulate increased personal student responsibility for achieving the goals of the curriculum.

13. Strive to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.

14. Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.

15. Be constructive and cooperative in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions.

16. Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district.

17. Be a reflective and continuous learner.

18. Comply with School Committee policies, contractual agreements, state and federal laws and regulations.

19. Work cooperatively with colleagues, administrators and other school personnel.

20. The compensation package for this role is in line with the current Lowell Teachers Association contract.

Additional Requirements:

Experience with appropriate age group.
