Job Description And DutiesThis position is limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.Under the direct supervision of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, CF, and the indirect supervision of the Correctional Business Manager I, DOC, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic, CF will lay out, instruct and assist with the work in connection with major repairs to heavy equipment and automotive equipment, including major engine overhauls, tune-ups, relining and adjusting of brakes, wheel aligning, transmission and differential replacement and repair and minor body repair.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.
The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody inmates, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is one of the two prisons in the State responsible for the training and placement of male inmates in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers 31 male camps located throughout California.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter. Pursuant to the Public Health Orders ( Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings and State and Local Correctional Facilities and Detention Centers Health Care Worker Vaccination Requirement ) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines and Testing for Institution Staff issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination. Desirable QualificationsIn addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Class A or B Driver License
  • Experience Working on Heavy Equipment
  • Experience Working in an Auto Shop
