SUMMARY
Verifies and keeps records on outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Identifies method of shipment.
Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information and instructions on cartons or containers.
Inserts items into containers.
Uses business software to perform shipping functions such as; posting bills of ladings, completing NAFTA documents, completing certificate of conformance documents, updating finished goods inventories and other tasks as required to fulfill the shipping duties.
Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies located in shipping area.
Must operate tier lift truck and uses hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
Operates bar code label computer, UPS computer, Federal Express computer or any other automated shipping and tracking systems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
