ABOUT CAFE DE MIRO:
Cafe De Miro is an ALL DAY CAFE offering a diverse menu inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, with a focus on healthy, flavorful options. Our concept draws inspiration from successful establishments like blending health-conscious choices with culinary creativity.
We have two distinct locations:
1. Breton Village: Offers a full-service cafe experience with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, including omelettes, toasts, paninis, signature sandwiches, gyros, salads, and a variety of coffee and tea options.
2. Downtown Market: Features a streamlined menu focusing on street gyros, grain/salad bowls, signature sandwiches, fresh pasta, and a selection of Mediterranean appetizers and sides.
Both locations showcase our commitment to authentic Mediterranean flavors and high-quality ingredients.
Founded by Fatma Alagoz, who brings extensive experience in Anatolian cuisine, Cafe De Miro aims to provide authentic Mediterranean tastes unique to the Grand Rapids area.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Barista to join our Cafe De Miro team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for coffee, Mediterranean cuisine, and providing exceptional customer service. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, culturally rich environment where you can showcase your barista skills while delivering top-notch service to our diverse clientele.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Arrive at work on time (15 minutes early) in uniform, ready to start. The uniform consists of a clean Cafe De Miro t-shirt, non-slip kitchen shoes, apron, folded work towels, black sharpie pen, and a hair restraint.
2. Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks, including lattes and specialty blends, following Cafe De Miro's recipes and standards. (Breton Village location)
3. Operate espresso machines and other coffee equipment efficiently.
4. Prepare and serve smoothies and acai bowls.
5. Take customer orders accurately, providing information about our Mediterranean-inspired menu items when needed.
6. Handle cash and card transactions using our POS system.
7. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring proper sanitation and cleanliness standards are met.
8. Assist in food preparation as needed, including:
- Breton Village: omelettes, toasts, paninis, signature sandwiches, gyros, salads, acai bowls, smoothies, and coffee/tea drinks
- Downtown Market: gyros, grain/salad bowls, signature sandwiches, fresh pasta, and appetizers
9. Check inventory levels in the mornings, particularly for specialty ingredients and fresh produce used in our Mediterranean dishes.
10. Complete daily prep lists, closing lists, and food preparation tasks in a timely manner.
11. Greet and acknowledge guests promptly, offering a warm, Mediterranean-style welcome.
12. Ensure efficient service, keeping ticket times to a minimum.
13. Maintain a positive attitude under pressure and provide sensible solutions when issues arise.
14. Take care of all equipment, including the espresso machine, Turkish coffee pots, and other kitchen equipment, keeping them clean and well-maintained.
15. Stay productive during slow times by cleaning tables and seating areas, both inside and outside the cafe.
16. Report food waste to management and notify the team of any equipment issues or food shortages.
17. Be proactive in finding solutions to kitchen and cafe-related issues, always considering the unique aspects of our Mediterranean-inspired menu and atmosphere.
18. Demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, being able to answer customer questions about ingredients, preparation methods, and health benefits.
19. Assist in maintaining relationships with local suppliers, including Field & Fire Bakery.
20. Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on menu items, coffee preparation techniques, and customer service standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience as a barista or in food service is preferred
- Knowledge of or interest in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Food safety certification is a plus
