Job Summary: The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor assists the Grounds Maintenance Manager in overseeing daily care and maintenance of zoo grounds.
Job Duties/Responsibilities: include the following but others may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor supervises a crew of 4 full-time employees and additional temporary/seasonal staff as needed, and is responsible for the daily direction, coordination, and evaluation of the grounds maintenance unit. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and evaluating work; training employees; ordering/arranging necessary supplies and equipment; coordinating maintenance activities with other zoo departments; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor works closely with crews and participates in many crew activities. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with established policies and applicable laws.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; sit; walk; use hand to finger, handle, hold, or feel; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; reach with hands and arms; and use feet and legs to operate equipment. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
Other Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to safely operate a variety of powered and hand-operated equipment, including a front-end loader tractor, commercial riding mower, and broadcast sprayer. Ability to accurately and effectively communicate instructions verbally and in written form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units off measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to calculate correct product application rates. Ability to calibrate sprayers and fertilizer spreaders. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, product labels and material safety data sheets. Ability to write routing reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of visitors or employees. Ability to speak Spanish helpful.

· The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, etc. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and unpleasant odors. The noise level usually varies from moderate to high.
