Calhoun County of Michigan is Hiring a Health Educator II - Health Resource Advocate Near Battle Creek, MI

Under the general direction of the designated Supervisor performs a variety of tasks in support of health education including representing the Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) within the community, coordinating health promotion activities, and facilitating and coordinating CCPHD and community programs.

This is a funding limited position that goes through September 30, 2025.
  1. Develop educational and program materials for presentations and trainings.
  2. Facilitate and coordinate community and CCPHD programs.
  3. Facilitate and convene meetings among community stakeholders.
  4. Work with community leaders, groups, and volunteers to address issues to effectively reach vulnerable populations.
  5. Provide health education throughout the community.
  6. Maintain data, reference, and educational materials.
  7. Assist in grant application development and reporting.
  8. Assist in data development for use in newsletters, web pages, or other educational materials.
  9. Ensure compliance with State of Michigan Accreditation requirements.
  10. Aid in the implementation of COVID-19 testing plans upon request from school districts.
  11. Support the distribution of COVID-19 test kits throughout the community.
  12. Deliver communicable disease prevention education to the K-12 population.
  13. Communicate COVID-19-related information and resources to the schools.
  14. Deliver various health education curricula, such as Michigan Model of Health, CATCH My Breath, TRAILS, etc. to the K-12 population.
  15. Provide healthy lifestyle education and promotion, including addressing barriers to health with school staff and students.
  16. Attend outreach events geared toward the K-12 population.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Participate in team and general staff meetings.
  2. Participate in public health quality programs (e.g., Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Control).
  3. Participation in emergency exercises and training required.
  4. Assess own need for professional growth and participate in education that increases knowledge and skills in area of responsibility.
  5. Adhere to established policies and procedures and maintains client confidentiality.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Public Health, Health Education, or related field required.
  • One to four years of experience working in a health care setting with an emphasis in public health.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Microsoft Office and data entry skills. Must become proficient in program-related software within 90-180 days contingent on the software.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent distractions due to people and telephone calls.
  • A valid Michigan driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and a personal vehicle including proof of vehicle insurance are required.
Working Conditions
1. Clinic/Office environment.
2. Travel may be required.
3. May have contact with infectious disease and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
4. On-call availability to respond to emergencies (e.g., program-related and public health emergencies).
5. Extended work days (beyond 8 hours/day) and weekends or holidays may be required.
6. May encounter threatening people and other dangerous situations.
