California Coast Credit Union is Hiring a Learning specialist Near San Diego, CA

Responsible and accountable for designing, developing, evaluating, maintaining and facilitating training programs that support the credit union’s strategic objectives, using a blended learning approach (Classroom, Virtual Facilitation, Self-Study, e-Learning, or other methods).

Works consultatively and collaboratively with subject matter experts and other credit union staff to develop effective instructional materials.

Supports and models the credit union’s Service philosophy and related initiatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports directly to the Manager, Learning & Quality Service. No staff report directly to this position.

NATURE & SCOPE :

  • Facilitates and updates courses and programs that support the functions of the credit union. Key content areas include :
  • Core systems (Symitar, Mortgagebot, MeridianLink, and other systems added in future)
  • Onboarding (including Teller School)
  • Compliance
  • Lending and Real Estate
  • Product Knowledge and Sales Skills
  • Service Skills
  • Management / Leadership Development
  • Special Topics (IRAs, Business Services, New Accounts, etc.)
  • Additional programs related to business needs
  • Fulfills tasks in these areas

Content Updates & Design, Facilitation and some Learning Management System (LMS) administration

Content Updates & Design

Based on direction from Manager or Instructional Designer)

  • Conducts appropriate level of research to generate new material or update material; remains current with procedures, policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Establishes and nurtures SME and Stakeholder relationships.
  • Incorporates appropriate course exercises that include formative and summative assessments.
  • Applies blended learning approach by identifying and using a blend of virtual and onsite instructor-led training, eLearning courses, on-the-job training, and self-directed training to enhance the participants learning experience.
  • Creates relevant course outlines and storyboards.
  • Identifies appropriate circumstances to design and disseminate pre-course work and / or post-course work.
  • Produces job aids, simulations, and other supplemental materials.
  • Creates and updates course quizzes and exams.
  • Follows written department instructional design standards for instructor-led or e-learning courses.
  • Proofs work and ensures mechanics, formatting, spelling, and content are correct.
  • Manages the content review / approval cycle and follows up with evaluators.
  • Job-shadows PFR, teller, branch management, and other department roles, as appropriate.
  • Reviews course evaluations for general feedback on content and delivery.

Learning Specialist I :

Some involvement in instructional design tasks related to assigned topic areas for straightforward updates or creation of virtual sessions.

Some basic work with screen recording software and job aid authoring tools.

Learning Specialist II :

Some involvement in instructional design tasks related to assigned topic areas (e.g. teller school, lending, etc.) for significant course updates / revisions, with occasional responsibility for new course creation.

May co-create virtual ILTs or short e-learning modules. Greater involvement in e-learning software authoring tools (formatting, edits, computer software simulations, simple scenario branching and test development).

Facilitation

  • Completes Train-the-Trainer sessions, as assigned, including teach-back segments (usually led by department member with previous, specific content / course experience).
  • Prepares fully for instructor-led courses makes appropriate notes in Facilitator Guide, verifies materials to be printed / made available, tests audio-visual equipment, prepares charts / visuals, and rehearses activities.
  • Prepares fully for virtual facilitation makes appropriate notes in Facilitator Guide, verifies that materials have been posted in LMS, ensures all technology is working as intended (including upload of visuals, ability to download files, etc.

verifies that all virtual setups and permissions have been established, and rehearses activities (both large group and break-out sessions).

  • Arranges for guest speakers, ensures pre-course work has been issued and completed, and makes contact with attendees and attendee managers.
  • Obtains answers to parking lot questions raised in classes, disseminating responses.
  • Provides follow-up coaching to support learning retention and skills application.

Learning Specialist I :

Completes written quarterly facilitation self-development plan and reviews document with manager. Completes outside online training, as assigned.

Learning Specialist II :

Completes written bi-annual facilitation self-development plan and reviews document with manager. Completes outside online training, as assigned.

Provides follow-up coaching.

Quality Service

  • Participates in special department projects, as directed.
  • Recommends process / efficiency improvements for department / credit union.

  • 1 or more years of financial services experience required.
  • Member facing experience preferred.
  • 1 or more years of experience in training, presentation, or facilitation preferred.

  • Associates degree, college degree, or certification in instructional design / related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years of Symitar experience preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office preferred.

Learning Specialist II :

  • 2 or more years of experience in training, presentation or facilitation required OR
  • 2 years of sales experience (branch position or training delivery) required.
  • 2 or more years of consumer lending experience (branch position or training delivery) preferred.
  • 1 or more years of real estate lending experience preferred.
  • 2 or more years of experience in instructional design preferred.
  • 1 or more years of experience in e-learning design / software preferred.
  • Learning management experience preferred.
  • Associates degree, college degree, or certification in instructional design / related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years of Symitar experience preferred.
  • Intermediate / advanced MS Office preferred.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES :

Fulfills tasks in instructional design, facilitation, assessments, and quality service according to job level.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Excellent ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to tolerate periods of continuous sitting and standing; ability to lift, carry, pull or push items up to 25 lbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :

Work is primarily performed within an enclosed classroom and cubicle office setting. Individual is subject to standard background noise found in that environment.

Note : Staff is expected to perform various tasks, projects and administrative duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to assign or change duties and tasks to this position at their discretion.
