Laborer
Duties:
LABORER - Safely perform tasks of a general nature within the marine and general industries as directed by supervisory and senior personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Laborer performs physical duties as assigned, maintains safety standards, moves materials and equipment, assists skilled workers, and works in confined spaces.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
· EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - No prior experience or training is required. Preferred
· LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Bi-lingual preferred 70%.
· MATH SKILLS - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
· REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out both written and verbal instructions.
· OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES - Ability to multi-task, communicate effectively, and be detail oriented.
· PHYSICAL DEMANDS - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is also required to reach with hands and arms, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
· WORKING ENVIRONMENT - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must regularly work in wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, with fumes and airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. The employee must occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or extreme heat that is not weather related. The employee is responsible for taking actions to perform each task safely.
Ability to pass background to get DBIDS access for Naval Bases, BAE, NASSCO & Out of State locations. US citizen for Naval Base access
