Anticipated Hiring Amount : $4,841 per month

Work Hours : Monday Friday 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm

THE DEPARTMENT

The Credential Services unit is the centralized point of contact for all students wishing to enter the teaching profession.

  • The unit is responsible for collecting and processing program admissions documents for students applying to enter the teaching and services programs;
  • providing guidance and counsel to students who seek to earn basic credentials, advanced credentials, and Master's degrees;
  • monitoring progress toward credential or certificate; reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and processing applications for credentials upon completion of the programs);

and supporting the credential program in recruitment and assessment. The unit is responsible for ensuring that educator candidates meet all standards and processes required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and is the primary source on campus for faculty, staff, and students who seek information regarding the credentialing process and for disseminating new standards and practices approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teacher Recruitment and Preparation :

  • Serve as the primary resource for credential information to potential and current students.
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising on an individual and group basis for students in pre-credential, credential, and support advising for integrated programs, including delivery of detailed information to prospective students regarding University admissions and California state requirements, financial aid, examinations, alternative coursework requirements, and appropriate means of satisfying credential and Master's degree requirements.

Conducting advising sessions requires thorough knowledge of campus requirements, CSU-specific requirements, and CTC requirements.)

  • Program Completion : Coordinate specific credential application and information sessions for candidates completing the program and ready for the credential application process.
  • Work with credential staff to organize workshops to prepare students for external exams such as RICA and CSET. Identify on- and off-campus resources to support students with preparing for state and program-mandated examinations.
  • As budget allows, attend workshops to improve counseling and advising for credential candidates held at the Credential Analyst and Counselors of California (CCAC) conferences and regional meetings.

Stay abreast of new state and university regulations, procedures, and requirements regarding admissions, credentialing, and teacher preparation.

OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT :

  • Coordinate with credential staff and participate in recruitment events designed to increase the attention to the programs offered by the College of Education and Integrative Studies.
  • Provide follow-up communication to interested candidates.
  • Participate in university and college recruitment and outreach events on and off campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.

General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements;
  • obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data;
  • advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly;
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts;

and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.

Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field;

experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

  • A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field.

Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education year after year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must carry insurance suitable for driving for off-campus outreach and advising job responsibilities; personal vehicle required for these off-campus responsibilities.
  • Experience in PreK-12 credentialing in the State of California, background in teaching in the State of California.
  • Knowledge of University admissions and California state requirements, examinations, alternative coursework requirements, and appropriate means of satisfying credential requirements.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of the programs served; general knowledge of all Student Services programs;
  • ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; ability to use initiative and resourcefulness to plan work assignments and implement program improvements;
  • ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written reports and presentations based on this data ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters;

ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies, community colleges, and community contacts.
