Job Description:
Under the direction of the Chief Safety & Emergency Preparedness Officer, the Safety Manager is responsible for promoting all aspects of safe practices, office and field. Provides training in accordance with IIPP and Cal OSHA title 8 for the Company throughout California. In addition, the Safety Manager is responsible for safe practices, office and field, in accordance with Federal OSHA standards. This position is located at Customer Support Services in San Jose, California.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance reviews, overseeing training and development, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
Ensures the effectiveness of the district/department safety committees and serves as an ad-hoc member of all such committees
Oversees safety education and training for all employees
Maintains all record-keeping for safety training and safety programs
Coordinates collection and analysis of data and reports necessary for meeting internal and State/Federal requirements
Administers and maintains mandated employee health and safety programs, including but not limited to ergonomic evaluations, Respirator and Hearing Conservation, and CPR standards for employees
Develops new programs, as needed, to meet new or future regulations related to employee health and safety
Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industry processes
Recommends process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develops hazard control practices and programs
Reports or reviews findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections
Reviews employee safety programs to determine adequacy and recommends and implements changes to processes and procedures as required by internal or external agencies
Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents
Assists management in understanding OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling compliance, inspections, and citations
Collaborates with trade and professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety areas that affect the Company's business
Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have application to the Company's operations
Establishes target area and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives
Remains apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the Company
Acts as ranking Company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters affecting the Company
Prepares Unsafe Condition reports and ensures that corrective action is taken in a timely manner
Responds to all CAL-OSHA citations, conferences, appeals, abatement activities, penalties, and completes required paperwork
Participates in and supports the Company's Continuous Improvement programs and projects
Performs other similar duties as assigned
Attends meetings and training as directed by California Water Service
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience
Five years of increasingly responsible management experience
Five years of professional safety experience in the utility industry or equivalent training and experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Safety Trainer Specialist Certification through the NASP must be acquired within one year of hire
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
Valid California Driver License
Salary Range: $99,000 - $221,900 -
