What does Brice Civil Constructors do?Brice Civil Constructors, Inc. (Brice) is a proud subsidiary of the Calista Corporation, the second largest Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) with 37,300 shareholders and over $950 million in annual revenues. Brice is an SBA 8(a) participant that offers significant advantages to the government contracting agencies and allows us to leverage our sister and parent companies for additional resources to deliver large or small projects. Brice is one of 19 sister subsidiaries under Calista Brice LLC of the Calista Corporation. This holding line offers construction services in every phase of the construction cycle.
Our experience and ability to self-perform streamlines projects and reduces cost by minimizing inefficiencies in the construction cycle. We strive to hire tradesmen directly from the communities where we work to leverage local knowledge and local relationships to successfully complete projects on schedule and within budget.
Brice performs large heavy civil construction operations to include large scale civil projects, drainage, repair of earthen dams and levees, roadways, bridges, airfields, parks, ranges, and stormwater management, water supply, wastewater collection, and on-site wastewater treatment systems for federal, states, and local entities.
What can you expect?As the Project Engineer you are responsible for planning and coordinating activities concerned with construction and administrative management. You will ensure the project’s technical and reporting requirements are followed. This includes adherence to plans, specifications, schedules, applicable codes and permits, as well as compliance with accepted engineering practices and company standards. You will work on, but not limited to DOT, County, City of Houston, and Federal heavy civil projects. This position will provide on-site support two existing projects located in Montana for approximately 60 days and then will transition to project assignments located in the Houston Metropolitan area going forward.

How will you do it?
- Interpret plans and contract terms including job cost coding.
- Ensure that field activities adhere to contract plans, specs, and company policies.
- Perform duties as liaison with construction managers and other contacts to facilitate project objectives.
- Coordinate work schedules, communications, and work activities with job subcontractors.
- Complete daily project reporting that includes cost analysis, timekeeping, environmental and permit compliance, daily reports, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, quantities, and safety program documentation.
- Coordinate project activities between office management and field management.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination among all project participants.
- Ensure compliance with current project schedule and project completion documentation.
- Work with the Construction Managers to manage project financials.
- Determine supplies and materials needed to complete projects and requisition same.
- Formulate reports including work progress and cost schedules.
- Represent the company in project meetings as needed.
- Assist Project Manager & Superintendent with day-to-day project operations.
- Work from project onsite locations.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to type 45 words per minute and should have adequate knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Microsoft packages are preferred.
- Ability to learn costing and accounting procedures.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, via written and verbal communication methods.
- Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with employees, business partners, and customers in a friendly and positive manner.
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
- Ability to use judgment and discretion.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
- Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
- Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Comparable experience may be considered instead of a degree.
- 3 years or more experience as a Civil Project Engineer required.
- This position is required to document and process contract information into construction specific software (MS Excel, HCSS, and/or other construction data systems). The ability to learn computer-based construction and scheduling programs is essential.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule. This position requires working on project sites in Houston, TX, and the surrounding Houston areas.
- Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the Brice Civil’s Driving Policy. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
