Job Description And DutiesUnder direction of the Area Construction a Senior Transportation Engineer, incumbent performs various landscape architecture and transportation related tasks as required and assures the work being performed in conformance with the project’s Contract Plans, special Provisions, Standard Plans and Specifications.
Incumbent will be required to drive to and work at various locations throughout the District with the employee’s headquarters being as assigned. The incumbent will be subject to noise, odors, and dust; extreme weather conditions when on construction project sites; when working at the base office site, will be subject to a climate-controlled environment; artificial lighting, etc.However due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate.
Incumbent will be expected to have an in-office presence, and may be allowed and/or expected to telework from a home office or other appropriate location on a part-time basis. Workload may subject incumbent to night work, flexible hours, frequent changes of shift, frequent changes of work hours and workdays, and geographic transfer. Travel is required. A valid California driver's license is desired. Incumbent may be required to travel on short-term and/or long-term expense. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. Overtime may be required. Incumbent may be required to travel in state for meetings, conferences, and training.

Special Requirements

The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant’s education and experience meet the evaluation criteria below and qualify them for the position. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. You must include specific examples addressing each of the evaluation criteria listed below. The SOQ must not exceed two (2) pages in length and written in no less than 12-point font. Each evaluation criteria must be addressed separately and in order.
  • Experience with written, verbal, and personal communication with internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply your experience and education to construction engineering and contract compliance principles. Experience or education related to Landscape Architecture. Experience or education related to planting and irrigation projects.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify problems and use logical analysis to find information to provide sound engineering recommendations, knowledge of calculations pertaining to highway construction/planting/irrigation and knowledge of utilizing manuals/textbooks to determine engineering solutions.
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to work productively with Contractors; Ability to enforce contract documents and resolve conflicts.
  • Experience developing and maintaining positive working relationships; Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Where are you in the CA Landscape Architect licensing process? Provide tests taken and dates passed.
