Job Description And DutiesUnder the general direction of the District Chief of Staff, the incumbent provides leadership responsibilities for planning, organizing and directing staff activities related to Administrative Services such as Resource and Personnel Management, Workforce and Strategic Planning, Facilities, Public and Legislative Affairs, Creative Services, Risk Management as well as Compliance Management in areas of Employee Engagement, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Equity, Safety and Health, and Training. This position requires a high level of confidentiality that must be observed when addressing sensitive issues.

  • 549.90, this position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP) process.
This process provides for examination and job-selection specific to each position and consistent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the classification.

Minimum Qualifications:Either IOne year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) or Staff Services Manager II (Managerial).
Or IIOne year of experience in the California state service performing analytical staff duties of a class with a level of responsibility not less than that of Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) or Staff Services Manager II (Managerial). and
Current employment in a class with a level of responsibility not less than that of Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) or Staff Services Manager II (Managerial).
Or IIITwo years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Staff Services Manager I.
Or IVExperience: Five years of increasingly responsible management, personnel, fiscal, planning, program evaluation, or related analytical experience which shall have included the preparation of reports and the presentation of recommendations to management beyond the trainee level, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. [Experience in the California state service applied toward this requirement must include two years performing the duties of a class with a level of responsibility not less than that of Staff Services Manager II (Supervisory) or Staff Services Manager II (Managerial).] (In appraising experience more weight will be given to the breadth of pertinent experience and the evidence of the candidate's ability to accept and fulfill increasing responsibilities than to the length of the experience.) and
Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Examination Information:This examination will utilize an evaluation of each candidate’s experience and education (E&E) compared to a standard developed from the Class Specification. For this reason, it is especially important that each candidate take special care in accurately and completely filling out his or her State application (STD. 678). List all experience relevant to the “Minimum Qualifications”.
This examination will not establish a civil service list; therefore, candidates will not have the ability to transfer their eligibility to other departments. Candidates will be notified of their examination results.
Note: If using Out of Class (OOC) experience, you must submit a copy of your signed and approved OOC documentation. Failure to do so may result in your OOC experience not being considered during the evaluation process of this examination.
Education: If using your college education to meet the minimum qualifications, college transcripts must be submitted with your application and SOQ.
