Position Description
JOB TITLE: Library Media Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Director of Library and Technology and Principal
STATUS: Exempt, Salary 10-month Teaching Professional Calendar
HOURS: Full Time (40)
LOCATION: All Calvary Christian Academy Campuses

Purpose Statement:
The Elementary Library Media Specialist (ELMS) develops, implements, and directs a library media program that guides students and staff to be effective users of ideas, information, and technology in support of the mission of Calvary Christian Academy.
Scope:
The LMS coordinates with the Director of Library and Technology Integration in the effective administration and organization of the elementary library media center and programs. The ELMS provides for formal and informal instruction of information literacy and research skills, the production of materials, and the use of instructional technologies for both students and staff in accordance with current industry standards, including American Association of School Librarians (AASL), International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the Future Ready Librarians Framework.
Skills:
Bachelor’s degree with teaching experience required. Must have excellent communication and computer skills as well as knowledge of various educational/instructional technology platforms. Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and/or certification as a Media Specialist preferred. Additional certifications in Google, ISTE, Adobe, etc. preferred.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Plan, administer, and supervise the elementary library media program, developing policies and procedures for efficient operation and optimal service.
  • Organize and facilitate a physical environment designed to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Establish annual and long-range goals correlated to the CCA Mission in conjunction with the Director of Library and Technology Integration.
  • Follow a collection development policy which includes selecting and acquiring resources, weeding materials, and assessing and evaluating the collection.
  • Maintain an efficient system for classifying, cataloging, circulating, and inventorying all library materials according to industry standards.
  • Ensure that students receive planned, sequential information literacy instruction.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop curricular content that integrates information literacy skills into instructional activities.
  • Promote reading and the use of information resources through such activities as storytelling, book talks, displays, publications, research projects, and special events.
  • Seek educator and student participation in the selection and evaluation of materials, information databases, and technologies.
  • Be familiar with the school curriculum and work with leadership to support the curriculum with the library collection.
  • Maintain a professional library collection and provide access to online resources to promote the professional development of the faculty and administrative staff.
  • Communicate with teachers, students, and administrators about new materials and recent technology developments in their specific instructional area.
  • Provide staff development in and model the use of instructional resources and new instructional technologies.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technology sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Attend workshops, webinars, conferences, etc. to keep professional skills updated.
  • Be knowledgeable of current regulations and collaborate with staff and administrators to develop and implement policies and procedures related to privacy, copyright, acceptable use of information, and intellectual freedom issues.
  • Serve as a “Tech Coach” to plan, develop, and implement effective uses of instructional technology resources in all formats for teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Library and Technology Integration to train, supervise, and evaluate teacher assistants, as well as parent and student volunteers.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Full time (40 hours/week); however, it may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project or in a circumstantial emergency affecting the school facilities.
