CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring a Mental Health Advocate Near Prince Frederick, MD

Position: Mental Health AdvocatePosition Summary: Assist students with physical and psychological wellbeing of children experiencing homelessness. The Calvert County McKinney-Vento Program will address the need for mental health support /services for students experiencing a loss of housing using a trauma informed approach. A trauma informed approach includes but is not limited to using strategies like yoga, mindfulness, and art and music therapy, etc.
Reports to: Director of Student Services and McKinney-Vento Liaison
Education, Certification, And Experience
  • Mental Health background
  • Certified as a Yoga Instructor and Art Instructor/Therapist
Knowledge, Abilities, And Skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Excellent human relations skills and experience with counseling yoga
  • Experience with yoga, art therapy, and mindfulness strategies
  • Background in social work or other mental health services
Essential Job Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students using yoga, mindfulness, and expressive arts.
  • Coach and mentor students on setting goals and achieving those goals
  • Helping students process through their traumatic events
  • Help build social emotional skills in the areas of self-regulation, self-confidence, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision making in order for the students to build academic success.
Physical Demands: Position requires significant periods of walking and standing. The position requires the applicant to model yoga poses.
Unusual Demands: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.
Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) month position; $42.00 per hour; up to three (3) hours per week for 50 sessions; employment is contingent upon continued grant funding and need.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.
