Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a temporary Long-term Substitute Teacher to teach Middle School Science September 2024 to mid-January 2025. Daily substitute teaching assignments are available on an as needed basis after the long-term assignment ends. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility and self-discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.

Substitute teachers play a pivotal role in the overall education of our students. We are seeking a qualified candidate who can teach Seventh Grade Life Science. In Seventh Grade Life Science students study organisms of varying complexity with a final focus on the structure and function of the human body. The first half of the year focuses on the characteristics of life that are shared among all living things. During the second semester, students investigate the incredible diversity seen among living organisms. Throughout the year, they learn the inquiry approach in a classroom setting and science laboratory. In addition to teaching, the substitute teacher will also be responsible for managing the daily affairs of a classroom including parent education and communications, teacher collaborations, and other school-based duties and responsibilities.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with prior experience teaching science to middle school aged students. Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A State of Maryland and FBI background check will be performed.
