General Summary

The Technical Service Manager (TSM) is responsible for Project Management, Estimating & Proposals, Project Planning/Scheduling, Project Controls, Document Management, and Technical Deliverables regarding Engineering, Drafting, and Specification requirements. This position is a problem solver with the mindset of continues improvement towards excellence.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • Must have at least a BS degree in Engineering.
  • 15 years of managerial experience in an engineering or manufacturing technical services role.
  • 10 years hands-on experience with engineer design/drafting and analytical software programs.
  • A full understanding of engineering & design in all disciplines is required.
  • Experience with project planning/scheduling and documents controls.
  • General welding and fabrication knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written (both by hand and electronically)
  • Knowledge & understanding of how to develop & read project schedules.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and sometimes wear multiple “hats” effectively.
  • The ability to understand requirements for all aspects of manufacturing is crucial.
  • Must be able to assist in providing quality solutions to ease manufacturing issues or trouble spots.
  • Previous experience with creating and presenting project status reports (finance, scope, and schedule), that include viable solutions for issues/problems, is essential.
  • Must have the ability and knowledge to converse professionally with potential & existing customers to support the further growth efforts of the business.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance & assistance as needed to support design/engineering as well as manufacturing.
  • Responsible for generating procedures and processes for all aspects of manufacturing.
  • Lead project management team and perform periodic reviews to ensure processes & procedures are being followed, as well as to ensure highest quality standards are maintained.
  • Responsible for confirming that information being conveyed is accurate, available, and release timely to avoid delays in the manufacturing process.
  • Manage project status reports generated and presented to the leads & management are accurate and timely.
  • Review project reports to determine if additional effort or guidance is required for any areas.
  • Provide project management assistance as workload demand exceeds current employee capacity.
  • Coordinate with project controls group to ensure that company/project performance data is accurate and presented to the management team for evaluation.
  • Responsible to ensure proposal group is meeting business development requests and providing accurate quotes.
  • Manage the workflow and product that the proposal/estimating group generates and ensure proper steps and practices are being followed.
  • Technical & commercial review of proposals.
  • Assist with evaluating manufacturing backlog data to determine realistic delivery schedules and determine how aggressive proposals should be.
  • Review & evaluate client purchase orders for acceptance.
  • Support development of new customer contracts terms and conditions.
  • Ensure project planning/scheduling is providing accurate data on a timely basis.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and managing a production schedule to ensure a timely execution of projects
  • Periodically review document controls to ensure information is being exchanged effectively & accurately.
  • Verify quality procedures and manuals are being followed.
  • Revise processes and procedures accordingly as business needs dictate.
  • Maintain a quality relationship with CAM’s Manufacturing Coordinator to ensure continuity between business units.
  • Support business development efforts in participating in client communications and attending meetings when required.
  • Recognize the contributions of every team member and encourages them to work together in harmony, sharing ideas and maintaining good relationships in the execution of production tasks.
  • Place the safety of the team members in high esteem and educates them on safety tips and procedures to adhere to during manufacturing process.
  • Showcase knowledge and skills to the team members, giving them direction to go about their tasks and duties on the job.
  • Demonstrate to his/her team members practical ways to execute difficult tasks so they have a clear direction of how to tackle such tasks on their own in the future.
  • Monitor team members in the course of their work to ensure that they comply with company standards of operations and are working as effective as possible.
  • Establish a weekly work schedule for team members and ensure that they strictly adhere to it; take attendance to ensure regularity and promptness of team members to duty.
  • Maintain a healthy line of communication between team members and management.
  • Analyze manufacturing data and identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement; identify and utilize methods of making manufacturing process more efficient and effective (reducing waste, using lean).
  • Direct corrections (corrective actions) of any manufacturing issues that arise; and work with Quality Manager in development and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Confirm that finished products meet or exceed industry standards and CAM Pro quality requirements have been met, before they are declared ready for use.
  • Oversee the evaluation of prospective employees to ensure they are capable of completing the work they would be hired to do.
  • Manage the hiring, onboarding, and immediate work performance of new hires to assure their skills, work ethics, and production rates are what was expected. Address any issues / concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of operational budgets, KPI’s, team members operational status, and make them available to management for evaluation.
  • Assign tasks to team members and provide them specific directions/information, procedures, and the sufficient resources required for them to carry out those assigned tasks.
  • Keep records of team members performances, training, and certifications.
