DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management

JOB TITLE: Supervisor - Coding (HIM)

SHIFT: Full-Time, 80 Hours Bi-Weekly (Exempt position)

Summary/Objective 

Coding Supervisor will supervise all aspects of the HB and PB Coding in the Health Information Department. 

Essential Functions

• Demonstrate knowledge of complete and accurate medical record constitution. 
• Work collaboratively and assertively as necessary to assure timely completion of medical records documentation by providers practicing at the hospital.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, patients, physicians, and hospital departments to support documentation improvement process.
• Provide training, auditing and education to coding and office staff regarding correct coding initiatives on an ongoing basis.
• Responsible to identify electronic medical record documentation issues and to implement processes to ensure improvements. 
• Lead and direct assigned Coding HIM staff in ensuring daily operations, production, and quality standards are met.
• Participate in yearly departmental budget process and maintain departmental expenses within annual budget.

Qualifications

Experience

• One - Two years in supervisory or lead role.
• Three years’ coding experience. 
• Previous experience in Hospital Informational Management Department.

Skills/Competencies

• Basic Health Information Management knowledge, coding and reimbursement practices, privacy laws, access, release of information, and release control technologies.
• Microsoft Office Applications. 

Requirements

Education Required

• Associate Degree in Health Information Technology or bachelor’s degree in health information management or closely related field.

Certifications Required or Preferred

• RHIT or RHIA Certified
• Certified coding specialist
