JOB SUMMARY

The Nutrition Services Supervisor assists the Nutrition Services Manager in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nutrition Services department, following the current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern long-term care and assisted living facilities. The Nutrition Services Supervisor assures that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis and that the Nutrition Services department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with coordinating food services and activities with other related departments
  • Assist in developing and maintaining written food service policies and procedures
  • Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to residents, employees, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc to ensure control of equipment and supplies
  • Develop and maintain a file of tested standard recipes
  • Inspect kitchen and dish rooms, food storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control
  • Interview residents or family members, as necessary, to obtain food preferences and diet history as requested
  • Participate in maintaining records of the resident’s food likes and dislikes
  • Assist in developing methods for determining the quality and quantity of food served
  • Ensure that menus are maintained and filed
  • Assist in planning regular and special diet menus to assure they are in compliance with the physician’s orders
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, selection and training of food services personnel
  • Assist in establishing a food service production line
  • Assist in interviewing/obtaining food supply vendors as requested
  • Assist in the purchasing of food service supplies, equipment, etc., as required
  • Interacts with residents, elders, and clients as needed and communicates relevant information to Managers
  • Assist with department performance evaluations per request
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information, including protected health information
  • Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors
  • Adheres to dress and jewelry requirements per health code regulations
  • Perform all other duties as requested

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certifications
    • Completion of the Certified Dietary Manager course or equivalent as determined acceptable by the State Department of Health.
  • Experience
    • Three years of supervisory experience in institutional food service.
