Compensation And Calendar
  • $113,776.32 - $140,182.12 annually (Cert Mgt Range 4)
  • Master's and doctoral supplements of $2,797.00 annually
  • Staff have the choice of several HMO/PPO medical plans, including several that require no employee contribution for full family coverage

General DescriptionThe School Counselor designs and delivers comprehensive school counseling programs that promote student achievement, focus on student outcomes, are a collaborative effort between the guidance department, parents and other educators, and ensure equitable access to opportunities and rigorous curriculum for all students to participate fully in the educational process. The School Counselor is responsible for the successful implementation of these programs so that all students are both college and career-ready and are equipped to persist in their life path.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSchool Counselors develop, plan, implement, and evaluate school counseling and guidance programs which include academic, career, personal, and social/emotional development. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Under the direction of the Principal or designee, set and meet rigorous goals for increasing college and career readiness for all students, in alignment with site and district goals
  • Develop and successfully implement year-long action plan to meet the site’s college and career readiness goals
  • Advocate for the high academic achievement and social development of all students
  • Provide school-wide prevention and intervention strategies and counseling services
  • Provide consultation, training, and staff development to teachers and parents regarding students’ needs
  • Implement a district-approved advisory program by providing direct and indirect services to students
  • Integrate school priorities, state standards and district initiatives into school counseling program, including persistence to and through college and career
  • Use data to measure the results of the program as well as to promote systemic change within the school so every student graduates college and career-ready and able to persist
  • Develop action plans to include prevention and intervention activities and services that measure the desired student competencies and the impact on achievement, behavior and attendance
  • Provide the following activities:
    • conduct individual student academic program planning
    • interpret cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests
    • provide counseling to students who are tardy or absent or have discipline problems
    • collaborate with teachers to present school counseling core curriculum lessons
    • analyze grade-point averages in relationship to achievement and advise on course selections
    • ensure student records are maintained as per state and federal regulations
    • help the school principal identify and resolve student issues, needs and problems
    • provide individual and small-group counseling services to students
    • provide information to students and families on testing, scholarships and application timelines and processes
    • oversee the college and career center
    • monitor students beyond graduation
  • Serve as a member of the site’s leadership team and support the overall supervision of the school site
  • Facilitate and coordinate additional support, including Student Study Teams (SST) and 504s

QualificationsKnowledge of:
  • School counseling and guidance state and national standards
Education And Experience
  • Credential: Pupil Personnel Services, school counseling required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree or equivalent experience; Bilingual Spanish desirable

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 87.5% of time.
  • Constantly operate a computer keyboard, calculator and other office machines
  • Ability to communicate and accurately exchange/provide information
