General Responsibilities

This position reports to the Office Design Manager.

Performs mechanical design tasks as the Senior Project Engineer using CAD or Revit software.

1. Conducts surveys to gather data needed in design preparation.
2. Prepares preliminary design sketches and engineer’s level construction cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment.
3. Prepares designs and specifications for building related mechanical and plumbing systems, including a complete layout of equipment. Identifies and resolves spatial conflicts between various systems.
4. Prepares or contributes to technical reports.

When required by project schedules and performs CAD drafting or markup CAD drafting.

1. Performs analysis and response to requests for information as required during construction.
2. Collaborates with engineers, architects and vendors during data collection and document preparation. Proactively understands when to obtain information from these and other sources.

Resolves code issues with the appropriate officials during the Design process.

Prioritizes and meets commitments.

As project assignments require, keeps the Office Design Manager informed and communicates in a direct and professional manner.

Learns and follows the company’s QA/QC process.

Multitasks and provides Design support for multiple projects.

Proactive, cross-functional team player who plans, coordinates and suggests Design solutions.

Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with clients and personnel. Effectively coordinates with all disciplines on the project.

Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedure and criteria.

Ensures work complies with applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices.

Maintains strict confidentiality when required.

Builds trust by proactively meeting commitments, anticipating needs, and resolving issues.

Expands knowledge and understanding of electrical design by on-the-job training and self-directed study

Minimum “Must Have” Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of 8 years progressive experience in the building related MEP design field including the design and selection of mechanical HVAC equipment, air, water and refrigerant distribution systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing and LEED design for public and private sector facilities. Experience should include the production of CAD drawings and specifications. Experience in the preparation designer’s level mechanical construction cost estimates is a plus. Experience in Hospital and Central Plant design a plus.

Education and Professional License: Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.EIT registration and the ability to obtain a P.E. license within 1 year in Texas.

Technical: Proficient in the use of MS Office (especially Word and Excel), AutoCAD and Revit.

Effective verbal communication: Comfortable communicating with team members, other leaders and clients.

Effective written communication:Technical reports, drawing notes and correspondence are clear, concise and tailored to the reader.

Security Clearance: Must be a US Citizen (or eligible for employment in the US) and able to obtain security clearance including background and drug test.

Additional Qualifications:

The preferred Candidate will have all of the following additional qualifications. Candidates that have some of the qualifications but have a demonstrated desire and ability to develop the additional experience and skills will be considered.

Team Leadership Experience: Experience leading project design teams including the ability to train and mentor.

Sales and Marketing: Develop new business from existing clients through on-going relationships and client account management.

Revit or BIM CADD Experience: Has a working knowledge and can produce drawings. Has the ability to become proficient with training.
