Job Summary: The Landscape Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of outdoor spaces. This role involves working under the direction of a Landscape Designer or Project Manager to ensure that landscaping projects are completed efficiently and to high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation

  • Assist with the installation of landscape elements such as plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, sod, mulch, and hardscape features (e.g., patios, walkways, retaining walls).
  • Follow design plans and specifications to ensure accurate placement and proper installation techniques.

Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks to preserve the health and appearance of landscapes, including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, and pest control.
  • Monitor plant health and irrigation systems to identify and address issues promptly.

Equipment Operation

  • Operate landscaping equipment and machinery safely and effectively, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, chainsaws, and power tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment as needed to ensure proper functioning.

Plant Care

  • Assist with plant selection, procurement, and transportation to project sites.
  • Plant and transplant trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation according to design plans and best practices.
  • Provide care and maintenance to newly installed plants to promote establishment and growth.

Hardscape Construction

  • Assist with the construction of hardscape features such as patios, walkways, decks, fences, and retaining walls.
  • Prepare surfaces, lay materials, and ensure proper alignment and drainage to achieve desired outcomes.

Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and follow proper procedures for handling equipment, materials, and chemicals.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with other team members, including Landscape Designers, Project Managers, and fellow Technicians, to achieve project objectives and deliver high-quality results.
  • Communicating effectively and proactively contributes to problem-solving and decision-making processes.

Client Interaction

  • Interact professionally with clients and property owners when working on-site.
  • Address any questions, concerns, or special requests in a courteous and responsive manner, representing the company positively at all times.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related field preferred.Knowledge of plant identification, horticultural practices, and landscape construction techniques.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment and machinery safely and proficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Certification and License

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, kneeling, and repetitive motion.

Work Environment

  • This role typically involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and sunlight.
  • Physical labor and repetitive tasks are common, requiring the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, operate equipment, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
