Full-Time Victim Service Specialist Saginaw Police Department –* Victim Services Division*

Currently seeking a full-time Victim Service Specialist to work within the Saginaw Police Department -Victim Services Unit. This salaried, full-time Victim Service Specialist will provide support, resources, investigative and judicial information and follow-up services to those affected by crime and trauma. Receives general direction and supervision from the Victim Service Supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide advocacy and crisis support to victims of crime (violent and property), victim’s loved ones and witnesses to trauma.
  • Serve as a liaison between the victim, detectives and outside agencies.
  • Provide information/referral to appropriate agencies for on-going assistance.
  • Document professional activities/interaction in victim case files utilizing the VSTracking computersoftware.
  • Attend and participate in community events/meetings.
  • Maintains confidential information.
  • Research project initiatives and provide recommendations.
  • Routine clerical duties including, but not limited to utilizing standard office equipment, computers,making photocopies, faxing documents and creating power points.
  • Assist with training and development of training materials.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in Criminal Justice, Social Services, or a closely related field is required.
  • Experience in the victim services field and understanding of the criminal justice and legal system is preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of best practices for victim needs.
  • Best practices in trauma informed principals.
  • Law enforcement investigative procedures.
  • Local victim service agencies and service provision.
  • Coordinating with internal departments/staff and or external organizations, using computers and relatedsoftware applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Applying independent judgment and personal discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with coworkers, supervisors and members of the public.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • This position involves sedentary work or sitting frequently.

Driving Requirements:

  • This position involves driving a motor vehicle and employment is contingent upon a satisfactory driving record. And the possession of a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

  • COVID Protocol:Due to the unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the unpredictable nature of the COVID pandemic, this position may be asked to work remotely from home. The Victim Service Specialist will be provided the necessary equipment (cell phone and laptop) in order to complete all job duties and requirements remotely
  • Salary and Benefits:The position will begin at an hourly rate of $20.90, at 40 hours a week with full benefits, paid time off and a retirement plan.
