SummaryPerforms a wide range of duties involved with preparing and serving foods and beverages in one or more of a variety of food service environments. May perform such duties as preparing salad items, hot foods, and/or cold foods, and/or assisting in the preparation of bakery items, as appropriate to the position. Assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils. Assist in the set up and service of food and beverages; collection and disposal of garbage/trash; as appropriate to the area of operation. Serve food to customers and/or perform cashiering duties, as assigned. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

Education and Experience
Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in food service or related field preferred
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesSet up food service, kitchen, and/or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs; check food temperatures and/or prepare areas for daily operations; operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned.
Convey food and supplies to and from the freezers and pantry to the kitchen and to serving areas.
Follow prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food; chooses proper utensils and sets appropriate temperature for menu items.
Prepare or assist in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, desserts, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
Serve food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served.
Serve a range of hot and cold food items from counter; adds relishes and garnishes according to instructions.
Replenish foods, condiments, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations.
Ensure that drink machines, canisters, and ice machines are cleaned and maintained.
Attend to day-to-day needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
Clean and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation.
Wash pots, pans, and other service-ware ensuring sanitary handling; organizes and replace service-ware to appropriate location.
Perform cashiering duties, as required.
Work respectfully with the public, staff, and students.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Considerable physical activity. May require handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Ability to read and comprehend varied and extensive written documents, regulations and reference materials. Ability to meet and confer with individuals and groups concerning a variety of subjects relating to training.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, and will be handling various utensils. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but could be extreme at times. Appropriate PPE will be provided when required.
