SummaryThe Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP) is a member of the intensive care team in the adult Intensive Care Units and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of a caseload of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting. The CCNP is under the supervision of the physician intensivist. The CCNP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications and provides direct patient care services in the ICU setting. The CCNP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities3 years minimum as a Registered Nurse, preferably in an ICU or other experience with trauma or critically ill patients. Prefer experience as a CCNP or experience as an NP with trauma or other setting caring for critically ill patients. Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Ability to obtain staff privileges at CFVHS. Strong communication skills; proficient documentation of care provided; legible penmanship; computer skills for accessing medical records and computerized physician order entry (CPOE); Ability to manage stressful clinical situations with skill and compassion.Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material. Visual/auditory acuity needed.
