SummaryThe Critical Care Physician Assistant (CCPA) is a member of the intensive care team in the adult Intensive Care Units and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of a caseload of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting. The CCPA is under the supervision of the physician intensivist. The CCPA performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications and provides direct patient care services in the ICU setting. The CCPA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities3 years of experience minimum as a Physician Assistant, preferably in an ICU or with trauma or other setting caring for critically ill patients. Strong communication skills; proficient documentation of care provided; legible penmanship; computer skills for accessing medical records and computerized physician order entry (CPOE); Ability to manage stressful clinical situations with skill and compassion. Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material. Visual/auditory acuity needed.
