Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the facility. The DON is responsible for overseeing the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Programs and the Education Coordinator for the facility, as well. Assumes some responsibility of the Administrator in his/her absence. As a Registered Nurse, the DON is also responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.
Education, Formal Training and Work Experience:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Required, MSN preferred. Has successfully completed the program from an accredited school of nursing with a current NC state nursing license or compact state. OR experience is preferred. Experience in ambulatory surgery nursing, at least two (2) to five (5) years of nursing and management experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center is desired. BLS from the American Heart Association required. ACLS and PALS certification preferred, also from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s medical and nursing care.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
- Ability to communicate well with patients, families, Teammates, physicians, other healthcare workers, etc.
- Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.
Physical Requirements:
Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Ability to speak and hear.
