Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher / Caregiver is responsible for the daily supervision of the classroom under the direction of the lead teacher.

They assist with the daily program, activities and preparation of the classroom and prepares the daily program under the direction of the group teacher.

They assist in preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in supervision of playground to ensure safety of children. Supervises the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times. Treats all children with dignity and respect.
  • Performs general housekeeping tasks as per policy. Assists the teacher as requested.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
  • Maintains current CPR / First Aid certification.

Experience Required

  • Must have previous working experience with infants and young children.
  • Must have knowledge of appropriate developmental skills for children ages 0-6 years.
  • Previous classroom management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of licensing requirements, NAEYC Accreditation criteria and developmentally appropriate practice in daily interactions in the classroom.

Education Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development preferred

  • Current CPR / First Aid certification
