Who we are:

This boutique Australian Equities fund manager has been in operation for 20 years and a has a long history of outperformance across all funds. The fund suite covers allcap, mid and small cap funds, long only and long/short. The total FUM is $2bn and the investor base covers institutional, retail and wholesale investors. The style of the fund is focused on assessing a companies growth prospects, business quality and valuation (GARP). Based on a desire to enhance market coverage, this fund manager is looking to hire an Analyst/Senior Analyst.

Job Description

Application of the the fund's Investment process to produce well researched and evidenced investment views in order to generate stock picking performance. This will be achieved through:

• Conducting due diligence on companies and industries by analysing financial statements and market data including but not limited to; company results, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow statements and competitor analysis to determine how an organisation is positioned to deliver investment returns;
• Keeping up to date with market developments, new investment products, relevant macro-economic considerations and emerging themes that are likely to impact on investment performance.
• Develop company contact/s to develop investment case understanding and insights.
• Carrying out financial modelling and forecasting, adopting the fund's investment process.
• Present research reports for consideration.
• Maintain active company visitation schedule, and regular contact with market participants.
• Act as back up for the long/short strategy
• Act as back up for the dealing function.
• Act as lead contributor regarding requests for information/data to support fund marketing and capital raising.
• Sector wise – The investment team are all generalists but some resources coverage will be required (please note this is not a resources focused role).

Contribution to Investment team

• Communication of ideas and conviction which may include summaries of research, pitching investment of ideas, and recommendations based on the ability to position potential and articulation about the risks and potential payoffs.
• Build relationships with PMs to influence positioning and portfolio construction
• Contribution to Investment Forum meetings, and participation in debate and discussion of ideas across various asset classes.

Experience and Qualifications

• Appropriate Bachelor’s degree.
• Approximately 4-10 years of experience likely within buy or sell side Australian equities.

This fund is a boutique tight-knitted team and we are looking for someone who is motivated to contribute to the success of the business, even if a task may fall outside of normal requirements. Given this is a boutique fund, everyone in the team participates in presenting the funds to the market, so we are looking for candidates with strong communication skills. On offer is a pathway to seniority and eventual equity in a boutique fund manager.
